EE Minimax Plus DAC vs. Rega DAC
I agree with you 100% Bill. I have often (in vain) tried to make the point that many audiophiles make purchase decisions based on an unsupported presumption that a given design will yield a given sound. How many posts have you seen starting with -...
EE Minimax Plus DAC vs. Rega DAC
So now we've decided that the best way to improve a tube dac is to remove the tube. Live and learn.
stripped allen wrench screws
BTW - screws aside, that is one great player. Best I've heard for the money. It's also cool in that it allows you to leave the digital section powered up and turn the tubes off. The Lector lets you do that too, but IMO, the D6 sounds better. (I've...
stripped allen wrench screws
The screws on the D6 are supposed to be star, not allen. But when I had mine, a star wouldn't work and I had to use an allen. Pacific Valve was very suprised. Anyway, try a star before trying anything else. Oh - also, allens come in metric and US ...
Mistracking
If it's only happening for a split second on one part of one record, it doesn't sound like your system. Most records have a glitch somewhere. If your system had a problem, I would think you would be seeing this happening a lot more. Are you tracki...
Memory Players
Exactly. It seemed to me that the OP was considering the Memory because he was attracted to the technology, which is, IMO, not the way to go about it. So many audiophile products are sold on that premise- this DAC uses the Sabre chip or this turnt...
Memory Players
That's a nice article and the person seems to like the sound. My point being, the technology doesn't mean squat unless it translates into sonic benefit.
Memory Players
I would not buy any player based on claims of superior or different technology. IMO, that's the downfall of many audiophiles. Buy based on sound, build quality and reputation for good service. There are many excellent players out there and you can...
Gingko Cloud 9 Scoutmaster
If you have footfall problems, I have never seen anything other than a wallshelf that will eliminate the issues. If you can possibly fit one into your setup it will make your life and music a lot better.
Name 3 under appreciated pop/rock drummers
The vast majority of the people mentioned above were very well-appreciatated in their day - Dino Danelli, Jim Gordon and Jeff Porcaro, in particular, were some of the most highly-regarded players of their time. I will vote for Graham Lear, who I s...
Amps for MBL 111
I agree Foster. It is a breath of fresh air to hear the opinion of someone with actual experience with the gear in question instead of spouting off ridiculous stuff they read or heard.
Do you ground your bearing?
Basis claims it helps reduce static. I've never tried it without the ground.
Harmonix component Tuning Footers
I had the round cherry adjustable ones with the thick gold band around the center. Forgot the designation. Frankly, every footer I have tried had the same result - the sound was altered in some way, but not necessarily for the better. IMO, hard fo...
Christmas Music and Audiophiles?
Actually, I grew up with DJ, but I always found his music too raucous when he played with bands. Mac Rebennac is solo piano and shows his, what I think is unbelievable virtuosity with this style. Plus, it was recorded by Dean Roumanis on a Mark Le...
Christmas Music and Audiophiles?
Rok2id - If you don't like that record, there ain't no cure.
