Top monitors 3K - 6K range
You have some very good speakers there - what is the rest of your system? Perhaps you're looking in the wrong place for improvement.
Affordable SS amp that has tube characteristics
Bada DC-225 from Pacific Valve. 95 wpc integrated with tube preamp, so the heat is negligible. A great amp - 30 day money back from Pacific Valve. $1200 + shipping. No affiliation with the seller - I had it's predecessor while I was waiting for a ...
TT upgrade advice?
The music hall tables are very nice plug and play. The mmf5.1 sounds very good.
Vertical Audio Rack for Tube Equipment?
The Salamander racks are adjustable and cheap. If you want something more exotic, Quadraspire racks offer 6,8,10 and 12" rods to place between the shelves, so you can customize them at will.
Broken cantilever Need options...
That's unfortunate. I was just looking at the Needle Doctor site and it appears that what they are calling a "retip" is actually a cartridge exchange. You send them $1500 and they send you a new cart. You then send your old one back to them. If yo...
Recommendations for 5k upgrade
If you like what you have, but want to refine it, I suggest upgrading to the Audience 12T with the Teflon caps. The regular 12 is a great piece, but the T upgrade is really significant. Then again, your DAC is good, but I would consider a better D...
LP12 vs Classic III vs. ?? vs.??
I think I pretty much said it when I wrote that the basis sounds more like a master tape and less like a record. I loved the Linn, but the Linn is a box and the cartridge picked up the boxy resonances. The Basis, being plexiglass, is free of those...
LP12 vs Classic III vs. ?? vs.??
I enjoyed my Linn/Ekos for quite a few years and was very reluctant to change, as I truly loved the sound. Like you, I wanted to upgrade, but, as you say, it is really difficult to audition turntables in a meaningful way - in your home with the sa...
toning down the ps audio perfect wave dac
I wouldn't touch it, as the value would decrease to practically nil. Buy a Yaquin Tube Buffer from Pacific Valve for $225 with 30-day money back. That should smooth it out a bit. IMO.
Results from Eliminating Anti-Skate
In the Fremer tt video, he measured the antiskate on the Scout with the Wally gizmo and found it to be way too high, even on it's lowest setting. As i recall, leaving the device on, but with no weight resulted in the correct setting. I know he did...
Which Sugden for my Spendors?
Sounds to me like you're looking for something to give you a bit more fullness at low volume. That's a common thing for apartment-dwellers, who can't (and don't want to) turn up the volume. In my room, I've found that a rear-ported speaker seems t...
Stands for Joseph Audio Pulsars
Target MR24 or Sound Anchors. Target are very good and half the price of the SA. But you already know this.
I can't handle digital after analog light my fire
Agree with Stringreen. $1000 digital just won't do it, no matter what anyone says. Also - don't listen to analog and digital in the same listening session. It confuses the ear.
Thirty dollar upgrade worth thousands
"A elderly man is driving down the LIE when he's pulled over by a cop. Cop says, "Sir, do you realize your wife fell out of the car a mile back?" The man says, "Thank God -- I thought I was going deaf." (insert rimshot here)
Advice on stand mount speakers
In a small room, I suggest you consider Harbeth. They are true monitors, which means they are designed to work well for nearfield listening, which is not the case with all speakers. You don't list your musical tastes, but if you enjoy vocals and a...
