Naim CD5x versus CDX2
On the subject of power supplies, I remember one review where the listener(s) found that the CDX2 with the 555PS sounded superior (whatever that means)to the much more pricey CDS3 with the XPS2 power supply. One more option is the CD5x with a HiCa...
Mundorf silver /oil /gold vs Duelund CAST
There are always better-sounding parts to be found, but the question is whether the end user is willing to pay the premium for them at the outset. Sometimes the customer is stretching just to afford the product and adding another $1000+ for the up...
Naim CD5x versus CDX2
Personally, I would rather listen to a CD5x/flatcap than a solo CDX2. With Naim, the power supplies really flesh out the sound, like going from regular tv to hd. But - the CDX2 with the XPS2 is absolutely in a different league. Once you add that p...
LINN MAJIK LP12 PACKAGE
I've heard the Majik several times and I think it's nice - IF, you have a very qualified setup person, AND, you are prepared to be constantly thinking about the next upgrade -tonearm, Keel, Lingo, whatever. There's nothing wrong with that, in fact...
Linn LP12 vs. VPI Classic 1 and 3
Thesoundhouse - thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to add your insights. Really.
Linn Ikemi Repair
I really think you should contact Linn in Florida and ask them if they still support the product. The only thing is - and I'm not sure, that they might make you do it through a dealer. Good luck if you bought it used. Hopefully, Linn will repair i...
any one give the Polk Lsi25 a good listen?
I remember really liking those old Polk 10's, with the two small mid/woofers and the passive radiator. I think they were on to a good thing at that time.
Loit Passeri
Boy - looks like Metronome meets Shanling. I would never buy such an expensive product without strong dealer and service support. At $21k, that player has some strong competition - DCS, Naim CDS, Playback, Lindemann, Esoteric K-01... All with exce...
$ 0.00 offers permitted?
Ebay collects fees on shipping charges, so so much for the "old ebay trick".
$$$ vs music enjoyment
When I was a kid, before the advent of the credit card, if someone bought something expensive like a nice car or stereo, others might say they were buying it to "show off", never considering that the person might actually enjoy owning the product,...
Speaker wire suggestion w/ Paradigm Studio 100 v3
I'm with Schubert on this. The cables are far from your weakest link. I mean, cables will probably change the sound, but they aren't going to turn those components into "refined, detailed, open and sweet". Pick up a Doge6 CD player from Pacific Va...
Turntable setup under $2000?
No offense, but you are rapidly sliding down to audio hell, IMO. You have a budget of 2K max. Just get the best Rega or Music Hall you can afford and live with it for a couple of years. Both of these tables are capable of very good performance and...
Where Can I Have a Box Made for Speaker?
Try U-line. They carry those heavyweight cardboard boxes, but you might have to buy more than one. I had quite a few of them which were, ironicaly, damaged during Sandy. Wet cardboard is not a good thing. Really.
Is HDtracks really selling you Hi-Rez music?
Not speaking about HD Tracks specifically, but with any medium, CD, hi-rez digital, vinyl or tape - the end product delivered to the user will always be dependant on the quality of the original master tape used and the care in converting the maste...
Turntable setup under $2000?
Some good advice given, but don't forget the isolation issue. I have springy wood floors and when I got my first tt the mid-2000s (after giving up vinyl in the 80s) it was a total nightmare. I looked at the table the wrong way and the arm went fly...
