What other hobby or hobbies do you have?
I don't consider listening a hobby, it is participation in an art. Hobby denotes a light interest to pass the time, like watching sports.
Tube Integrated with deep bass
Ditto the Pathos. Audiomat is a very good all-around tube integrated, but the bass might be what you are looking for, even though the lower mids make up for it.
Need to purchase a Phono Pre for Dynavector 20XH
How about the Musical Surroundings Phenomena at $600? You can adjust loading and gain completely to fine detail, and it sounds better than you would think. I have one with a LinnLP12 and Lyra Dorian.
The SET amp question.
As Larryi stated, 845's can give the benefits of SET plus substantial power (in a relative sense). I highly recommend the Art Audio Carissa SET amp at 12 big watts. It convinced me that all this is not hype but an exciting way to go.
what concerts do you wish you attended?
1. Sun Ra at Slugs Saloon 1966 with Don Cherry 2. J.S. Bach on harpsichord before any of the royal courts3. Glenn Gould at carnegie hall 1964
Vinyl or wait for the new stuff??
I personally think that vinyl will outlast all digital forms in the end. Certainly there is no doubt that it will outlast CD. SACD is a joke. Downloads will be the next thing, once they loose all compression and more easily can be played from a ha...

How many of us look under the hood??
I once opened up my Marigo power conditioner and it scared me, kinda like a hellicopter view of an incomprehensible interstate highway system. I closed it up and made like it never happened, for my own sanity.
How many of us look under the hood??
Mrjstark: I was only kidding. From the looks of your rig and listening room you seem to know exactly what you are doing, which I do not (on an under the hood level)!
How many of us look under the hood??
Remind me not to purchase any used gear from either of you guys.
How do you negotiate a cure for wrong audio view
One thing that prompted this thread was another thread entitled somerhing like "how do I get off the merry-go-round". The use of the word 'hobby' also factors in. Is it a hobby? Is it an art? Where is the line? My personal opinion is that music is...
The 5 Jazz Recordings You Would Take With You...

How do you negotiate a cure for wrong audio view
Maybe I am not being clear. The 'hell realm of dull geeky materialism' is my smart-ass way of making a point, albeit in a provocative manner. This is a high end audio site. I am an audiophile. However I do not have to bind my attention up with mer...
How do you negotiate a cure for wrong audio view
OK Hoopster, that much is clear. My point is that there is a danger of becoming a crass materialist when the mind rests on the hobby, as opposed to the glorified transfiguration possible through the Art. In the end, the hi-fi is mildly interesting...
