Tweaking the new Grado Timbre Sonata 3
Grado MI cartridges are not sensitive to capacitance (associated normally with different phono cables / or if there is a capacitance switches on the phono stage), but load resistors is another story and the manufacturer gave you a range from 10k t...
Tweaking the new Grado Timbre Sonata 3
Sonata 3 Timbre SeriesRecommended Load Range: 10k - 47k ohms But the highs are a bit more extended... , which seems to be a bit excessive, but just a bit, almost, but not quite sibilant. Use 10k Ohm instead of 47k Ohm if you think there are too m...
I underestimated the impact a new cartridge would have
I started out in the 1960s and ’70s with MM cartridges including a top of the line Shure V-15 @kayleerex1 V15 wasn’t even a top of the line from Shure :)Top of the line is Shure ULTRA 500 Series..........To all "specialists" this thread: People ...

Honest question about cartridge vs. turntable performance.
This is absolutely pointless thread and these % calculation is nonsense. How can it help someone ? If you want a decent analog system you need a great cartridge, tonearm, turntable, phono stage, amps, speakers ... You have hundreds of different al...

@audioquest4life You can compare any overpriced Koetsu to the Fidelity-Research FR-7fz yourself. You can also compare Koetsu to Miyabi Standard if you can find one, but not to Swiss made Benz. Compare Japanese cartridges to some other Japanese car...
A pragmatic view of cartridge expenses / many questions
When someone buying a $5-10k cartridge I hope this person already tried at least over 50 different cartridges prior to buying the most expensive one. I hope a decision to buy even $5k cartridge is rational (in fact it is irrational for sure, imo)....
What are the differences ?
You know, I have nothing against OLD cartridges, most of my favorite cartridges are old, but they are not refurbished. You can buy perfectly working cartridges for the price you will pay just for the new cantilever/tip to retipper. If you can acce...
What are the differences ?
This is Ortofon Salsa Why don't you just buy a better cartridge instead of fixing an old one ?
Running Two TT into one phono input, best options?
Luxman made switches under their top class turntable as as option to connect phono cables from two tonearm to one little box (located under the turntable). It was made in the golden age of analog for use with phono cartridges of that era. A separa...
Running Two TT into one phono input, best options?
Luxman LINE selector is what you need.
TT Hum
I don’t think it has anything to do with the stylus, you’d better try one of your mats on the platter to block EMI effect. It can be tonearm internal wires in the arm tube or something related to the tonearm. It is true that some people having pro...
Threshold SL10 preamp with MC/MM phono stage
HERE is the original threshold sl-10 (pdf file) manual for those who forgot.
TT Hum
@au_lait -What is the cartridge? -If you have a few different cartridges do you have a hum with all of them?-Any proper platter mat on your Technics SL1200 or just a felt slipmat or stock rubber mat ? -Hum is noticeable on normal level or on high ...
