Advice on Totem model ones I agree with previous postings. The Totems are quite good, but only when preceded by great source and power. They reveal deficencies in the front end.
low cost integrated amp for newbie I've already seen the NAD C320BEE used for $300 on Audiogon. This is a no-brainer. Simple, easy to find and cheap. If you upgrade later will be easy to sell. Go man!!
what's the best "mini monior" these days ATC SCM 7s and SCM 12s. These are simply amazing and I would put them up against just any passive cone speaker for dynamics, soundstage and imaging in their price range of $1100/pr. and $2,200/pr. Vocals are truly natural. The smaller SCM 7s blew ...

Good, warm, musical, under $500 used monitor Can't say enough about the ATC SCM7s at $1100/pr. May well be the sound you are looking for.
Doug Sax remaster guru question While Doug Sax will be forever connected with great work on the Sheffield Labs direct-to-disk work and is one of the very best in the business, Bernie is "The Man" time and time again. His work provides the best imaging, soundstage and is the most...
Arcam or Rega Integrated Amp. These are all good choices. Ultimately, it will depend on the voicing of the system. What sounds right to you. Acoustic piano and female vocals are my true test of the voicing. Best of luck.
Kestrals: Good intro into two-ways? I'm with Spicaguy. The TC-50 is wonderful and found for around $325 used. Easily modified with better caps and wire, it will compete with the venerable Rogers LS3/5A. Also look into the Axiom line. Very surprising. audioshop.on.ca in Ottawa was cl...
What is the best way to convert LP's to CD's? Dogeatpuppy is absolutely correct. It's tedious, but the results are best. I own the Philips 880 CDR, use Imation and Sony blanks and get decent results. You will have to baby sit the operation.
