What was the craziest location that you made an audio purchase from?
Transacted a Nixon DAC at Lucky Labrador on Hawthorne in Portland, OR.  Sold DAC, paid for lunch and beers.  Returned to radiology contract. in Seattle.
Active ATC vs Spendor / Pass Labs
I'm actually happy when listeners find their balance.  I tired some very good tube preamplifiers with first the ATC SCM 40As and now my ATC SCM 50As.  My personal experience was that the preamps were too slow for the active setup.  When I convert...
Active ATC vs Spendor / Pass Labs
@lonemountain  Isn't language interesting?  What I obviously failed to convey is that others who have listened to my ATC SCM 50 actives have found them scary GOOD!  The immediacy, sound stage, dynamics and slam are astonishing. I see them as my e...
Active ATC vs Spendor / Pass Labs
By all means, do whatever feels right to you.  None of us will be listening to your selections, nor should we be emotionally invested in those choices.  Positively speaking,  I’ve ATC SCM 50 actives and to my ears they do everything quite well an...
Can an audio rack be that important?
First real stand was Target.  Improved most parameters...some.  Then moved onto Quadraspire SVT which really opened up the mid-range, controlled the bass, gave a nicer sound stage, blacker background and faster attack of vocals and instruments. T...
Best Receiver?
Luxman 1120 A is a beast by any measure!  This would drive Apogees!  The tuner, terrific.  Only downside were the speaker terminals which were push pins accommodating perhaps 16 gauge.  Captured power cord.  Other than those small deficits, a real...
Wilson Alexia V seating distance
No recognition of vertical seating height?  Really?   Vertical height of people's ears and drivers of course are quite variable.  I was asked to measure the seated ear height of my wife before ordering Sound Anchors for her ATC 20s.  I realize th...
Surge Protectors
My audio guru recommended this and I had it professionally installed. https://ep2000.com/products/home-protection-products/premium-surge-protection-filter/?v=e75edac1b83f Something to consider.  And no, I've not had it trigger......yet.
What happened to all the highend stereo shops
@thefile  Salient points....all.   I would add the disposable world.  It permeates everything and drives a cheapness and impermanence.  A side product can be a caustic customer bereft of civility. I've owned certain audio pieces for decades beca...
Amp for LS 3/5a Falcon Gold Badge
You are onto some good amps.  I add only Sugden.  Class A drives these well.
Integrating speakers into contemporary decor - can WAF ever be overcome?
@soix 3+. Nailed it.  Thank you. Wow, @fastfreight nailed it too.   My wife has no delusions of interior design goddess and when she wants, she plugs into her very own respectable system which would embarrass 99% of what's out there.  I brought ...
upgrading from Spica TC60's to ??
Owned TC 50s in the 90s, loved them.  Did surgery on the crossover by simply upgrading the caps and the wire.  They jumped considerably in performance,  I mean REALLY jumped.   So you can keep them, upgrade them and continue to love them.  Otherw...
Need to build a headphone system
Simply noticed no mention of Manley Labs.  I've owned and enjoyed several of their pieces, not this one.  Not a headphone guy, but admire their approach and versatility of concept. https://www.manley.com/hifi/mabhpa
The weirdness of it all
@audphile1  Cannot really say.  Sounded great immediately and now that I have mixed ages of the same cable, well……..  somewhat indeterminate.  But definitely well worth it when from my perspective, 15K for just one high end cable is insane. That’...
The weirdness of it all
Well, it's done.  Two more Furutech 4.1 power cables added;  one to the music server, one to the preamp.  And the veil lifting continues.   The positive side, monies invested have rendered conclusive positive results and not been a waste of capit...
