Whats the best vintage Yamaha amp to invest in? A friend sold Yamaha and Luxman side by side for years in the late 70s and early 80s and hands down the Luxman gear was better sounding..... also higher priced. I have owned several pieces of both vintage Yamaha and Luxman and they were consistent...
Old NAD or newer high powered Denon? NAD 3020 is legendary.........for 1978. Still a good piece for the MET 7s. You need more and better power. Not the Denon. Here is a list of integrated amps that will bring life to the Vandersteens: Audio Refinement AlphaExposureLuxmanYou did not g...
Wadia 171 iTransport & Speakers Maggies, Pass and Bryston are all in your face reveal all products. The Harbeth is British let's get warmer and fuzzier. The Polks mask lots. The Wadia is fine within its limitations. It's not reference. I run one with an Arcam mini Solo and some ...
Good Mission stand mount models? please advise. Good suggestions, the M72 stock was really good also. I upgraded my pair. The crossover with Auricaps, Audioquest Type 6 internal wiring and rope caulking to dampen the cabinet and then they were unbelievably good.
Resolution Audio Opus 21 questions Bruce,Talk to me about your new Mojo Mini Mac and associated system. Thanks. Doug
The right amp for my system Previous comments are correct. If I understand correctly this is a 3 channel theatre system. Might consider the Odyssey HT-3 three channel which will provide enough current as suggested AND proper damping factor to control the panels which is oft ...
Amp suggestion for Merlins? I own this speaker and have run it with Rega R Brio, Analogue Audio Verdi Settana integrated and a Sugden A21SE integrated. They all sound great, with of course variances. The Stingray will also work great. The speed of the Merlins is really showca...
Looking to get the best sound I can Two things Maggies have always needed: lots of stable current and high damping factor to control the panels. If you go with tubes, then you need these in spades to give life to the music and control the panels.
upgrading speaker crossovers Yeah, it's always a cost thing. The Solen caps will work better, Auricaps will work even better.....for more money. I've done surgery on about a dozen pairs of speakers, all with great improvement. I would also consider the internal wiring. It all...
"Neutral/Clear Amp vs. Dark Amp" Pass and Sugden are not Dark.
Looking for a $1k DAC that delivers? Decware. A real sleeper. I've compared it with several DACs to include Assemblage 2.0, two Audio Zone and Scott Nixon (the little guy SS). Very open, detailed and solid bass. I listen to well recorded (lots of RR, Chesky, JVC XRCD, MA recordings) ...
Grounded vs. ungrounded power cord This comes up often enough. PS Audio offers(ed) a removable pin PC for just this purpose. An engineer friend runs all of his equipment without grounding plugs. Claims it is much cleaner sounding. Another friend runs his recording studio entirely w...
speaker cable and interconects for REGA BRIO- R I run MAC copper speaker cables and ICs with my Rega R. Seems to work decently with my Merlin monitors. Love the Rega R, seems as if Rega has finally figured out the amplification thing. Lot stronger than my previous Rega Brio.
Celtic Thunder Slippery slope here. IF you enjoy Celtic Thunder then well......okay. It strays far from authentic Celtic roots. If you wish to engage the real essence of the form, then find public radio's Fiona Ritchie and her program "The Thistle and Shamrock"....
High end speakers without bi-wiring? I do not bi-wire, but side-step the issue with those kinds of speakers I own by passing a single wire through both terminals to bridge. Hate the jumpers thing. |
