Rega Apollo - DAC / Player to beat it I read your post carefully and am still recommending the new Rega Apollo R as transport and a decent DAC which could be one of many. The transport on the new Rega is simply terribly good. I'm running one with a Decware DAC through all Manley elect...
What's going on with Mobile Fidelity? Go get the K2 HD "Kind of Blue". I can't imagine the MoFi could be better. It is simply "Live".
old newbie I've owned the Linn and it's decent, but not decent enough for the Vandies. Integrated/cd player is the route. Used, an Audio Refinement Compete integrated paired with a Rega Apollo R would very much suprise you. Later add an external DAC as the R...
KIND OF BLUE K2HD CD is really quite good and noticably better than any other version I've heard. The bite of the saxes is astonishing and all around very musical. I've not heard any SACD version.System:Rega R Apollo, Decware DAC, MAC Mystic cabling, AQ Power ...
Major upgrade from Rega Apollo: Which one? Sunnyjim,Apollo is a terrific transport. The advice for an external DAC transforming your souce end is solid. The Mircomega DAC you mention is a great buy in that new price range. Do it man.
Luxman MQ 88u 25 watts of tube Luxman current is substantial enough for most speakers. I would pay attention to db efficiency, but not live by it alone. Take the amp with you to demo speakers if necessary, I'm sure it will suprise you.I've a Sugden 30wpc class ...
Anyone had any recent contact with Micromega? Stereotypes Audio in Porland, OR is a Micromega dealer and may help. 503.280.0910 or stereotypesaudio.com
Arcam A28 thoughts compared to NAD, Cambridge, Cre I've not specifically listened to the Arcam A28, but have owned several Arcam integrated pieces and found them to all sound more organic than either the CA or NAD (exclude older models) of integrateds. The CA I've owned seems rather lifeless, NAD ...
Best preamp 2k or under, new or used Manley Jumbo Shrimp meets all parameters you've laid out including used price. Oh, and I run one now so I know. I'm running it with Manley Mahi Mahi monoblocks and Penaudio Cenya monitors.
Enough Power? Roxy54 is dead on. Plinius does have a house sound and reviewers do not live in your world. I looked up the Jaton 803 and they don't even list sensitivity but there is a whole lot of speaker going on here in the way of load. You really should consi...

I’m looking for suggestions for a tube Pre Amp There is a Manley Shrimp listed right now for just over $1100. That's a very nice preamp and no it's not mine. I have the Jumbo Shrimp.
Looking for a very good integrated solid state amp Sugden A21SE used should be considered. 30 wpc Class A. Not found a speaker it would not drive well (I'm sure they exist) and it is REALLY REALLY quick. Makes most other amps seem lethargic.Closes in on the tube sound...........but not as smooth a...
How do I smooth out violins? Correct....it's mostly the preamp. A Manley Shrimp or Jumbo would definitively help. Love the Spendors and McCormick, Marantz could be better, AQ Type 4 is a bit thin, AQ Type 6 is warmer. Signal Cable is really good stuff for the money. |
