What's the best EL84 amp? 1+ Manley Mahi Mahi. Terrifically musical, easy to bias and run great current. Took them to a shop once to demo their Martin Logans ESLs and they ran the crap out of them. Salesman was shocked. They are fun.
Great Small Room Speakers for $3-5k @nonoise Thank you. I found that site, but other than Tone Imports, are there brick and mortar dealers? Cheers
Great Small Room Speakers for $3-5k @nonoise Where did you get them? Extensive search gives up no USA dealers. Thanks. Cheers
Upgrade decision, power conditioner or music server Only tackling power conditioning. I’ve run Furman 15i Elite, followed by Decware ZLC, very nice, followed by Puritan 156 products, even better. I’ve settled on all of the Puritan products and experienced big improvements. Done.
If Nikola Tesla Were Alive Today, What Would His Stereo Look (and, Sound) Like? @dekay Thanks for video. Best demonstration I've seen is at the Boston Museum of Science. It plays thundering classical music pieces.
Boxes I tried to get original replacement boxes for some ATC 19 speakers and the distributor said they sell them for about $300 for a set because they come assembled only and not flat from England. Really? Keep the boxes.
What's an upgrade from Ryan R610s? I'm breaking my own rule by NOT answering the OP question. I apologize for that rude behavior. Your Ryan R610 speakers are terrific. Keep them. For less than the stated 3K you could markedly improve everything with instead replacing the Furman...
Digital Cable Recommendations Jorma +1 That thing is ridiculous. Torched my Nordost Valhalla 1. Now runs in my main system. Gifted one to a friend and he had the same reaction. Attributes of transparency, attack, larger sound stage and quieter. Was hoping for better and ...
HIFI Speaker active crossovers ... We still await the perfect @kenjit designed and produced transducer. As much as I dearly loved the blokes from Top Gear, their brilliant entertaining critiques, no serious auto designs were ever put forth. They were not foolish enough to endeavo...
Under my tower speakers -- Isoacoustics Gaia, other options? @dmk_hifi The carpet spikes under Gaia footers should not be feared. Two person job, or a really smart dog helping. After footers are set, simply tilt back some and have the other person or dog place under the center of the footer. Repeat.
Best Basic CD Player (no SACD, USB, etc.) It's Rega Apollo. In the scope of price, performance, reliability, it's Rega. At this very moment I'm listening to it push music through about 27K of downstream equipment and it is not outclassed as a transport.
I am considering a luxman 3600 tube amp as my first adventure into tube amplifiers? Perhaps I missed the price range, but these are wonderful. And yes, I owned them for years.
Best 1,000 complete system for girlfriend ideas @tomcarr beat me to it. She's gone chief.
Expensive Dac to keep or cheaper and change overtime Love the one you're with and dance with the one you brought. The problem with this hobby, or any hobby for that matter, is that real quantitative change requires large expenditure to move ahead in a meaningfully way. Changing one component us...
Pass XP-32 vs. Luxman C-900u? I run the Luxman C-9000u preamp and it is wonderful, probably not 20K wonderful. Found one used and very clean. I was running the Weiss 501 DAC as a DAC obviously and a preamp. Tom at Big Ear suggested that as very talented as the Weiss preamp i... |
