Speaker suggestions wanted I like the Gallo Micro powered sub/sat. This is a very musical and flexible system. You can contour bass for this situation and the sats are quite good. The Harbeth suggestion is also quite good. Cheers.
1000 budget for speakers and integrated - HELP Second the Audio Refinement as it really is the champion in this league. Vote Totem Arros used for speakers. Bit bass shy, but oh the imaging and and voicing, particularly for the genres of music you listen to. Kestrels are a bit distant and non-i...
NAD takes on the Krell Beast 1800 vs 6700?? The Emperor has not clothes. I've listened to Krell over the past 5 years, but only occassionally as I find it to truly be some of the most unmusical equipment available. It is quick, solid and extremely harsh. NAD has over its history at least al...
Interconnects at modest cost? Wireworld and LAT International make great inexpensive interconnects which are quite musical.
Why are AM/FM Tuners So Expensive? Older analog tuners (Luxman, Yamaha, etc.) with all discrete components sound much better than most of today's tuners. Their selectivity is great rejecting reflecting signals far better.
Do power conditioners really help? Yes, they do help. Start with cheaper ones like the LAT International AC-2 or Absolute Audio. They will make a difference and then investigate conditioners.
Budget DAC with Optical Digital input Assemblage 1.0 DACs have optical out and should be had for around $150 used. Very good and overlooked piece.
Which FM antennae The Fanfare FM 2G is my pick as it works very well having great sensitivity and selectivity. Not familiar with the FM Reflect but can positively say all of my experiences with TERK have been bad. Poor product with great hype.
Portable CD Player with Digital out Buckingham,Seems like a lot for traveling. I live on the road as a medical contractor and have had several combinations and permutations. I've found either an NAD L-40 or Linn Classik paired with NHT SuperZeros or Rogers LS3/5As on VERY light (non...
Best bookcase speakers for classical music Rogers LS3/5As would seem at least a consideration.
Which direction would you go? Mike,Excellent taste in artists with mostly great recordings.Let's assume the B&Ws go. Ground up for $5,000. YBA CD player and integrated combined with your choice of ATC passive monitors or Totem floor standers. By the time you properly do st...
Do "gold" discs sound better? Agree with Garfish. Gold has mostly nothing to do with it. Quality of the master tape, mastering of the recording and pressing quality. My disc to beat right now is the aluminium XRCD/Fim of 'Jazz at the Pawnshop'
Is there any such thing as a high end receiver? I've owned the Linn Classik/Rogers combination and it works very well. Far cheaper and yet still musical is the NAD L-40. Own one and use it with the LS3/5As at times with very good results as a travel system. DMC-electronics.com should still have...
Is there any such thing as a high end receiver? I love your choice of Rogers LS3/5A. The Luxman recommendation is clearly the winner. I've owned pieces from every company mentioned above except for the Dynalab receiver. That one is very nice, very expensive. I own a Luxman 1120A and it is magni...
