What matters most in speaker design?
Drew, That is interesting. I thought flat power response was the goal:Earle Geddes - waveguide loudspeakersI was using a calibrated mic and measuring the F-R 3 feet from the driver. This is very different from what I measured where I sit. Anechoic...
What matters most in speaker design?
I originally thought flat frequency response was a primary goal. And it is, IF damage done to achieve this is minimal.BUT having listened to single driver speakers with no x-over and then adding different tone controls, [DEQ24/96, Parasound Z-pre,...

Low-efficiency speaker like ATC and Dynaudio have this problem. Some with heavy cones need more juice before they come to life too.Just food for thought, but for anyone who thinks 80dB is quiet, try 80dB with active (no passive crossover), line ar...
Recommended Bookshelf Speakers $1200
Wow, another Role Audio fan! Not sure if they will play loud enough for rock music though.I would give Ascend Acoustics CBM 170 a listen. Don't rule them out just because they are cheap.
Active monitors, 3k used, great nearfield sound
Second Shadorne's rec. of Genelec. I only heard them in the store but felt they bettered Dynaudio, KRK, Mackie for natural, non-fatiguing sound.
