Tracking down a hum. Sounds like a tube.
how to disable volume control on DAC/Pre amp Is the mishap you are trying to avoid accidentally turning them both up at once and getting too loud? I run with 2 volume controls in series all the time and always have one turned up all the way and control with the other one. there is no incre...
Tube Preamps Should Have This Feature I have literally never hesitated to turn on my system. If you can’t afford new tubes, spend less on groceries. and obtw, the architecture of a passive pre it totally different. You are asking for 2 totally different components.
AES/EBU cable shootout @svenjosh I just bought a streamer that uses AES/EBU. thanks for your great review. So 6 months later what cables are you using? I'm an actions-speak-louder-than-words guy. thanks, Jerry
Why the fascination with subwoofers? @kennymacc but many people are limited by their wife or girlfriend to small speakers. Lots of skinny floorstanding offerings too that are not true full range. thus the demand.
Testing Ethernet switch 82% of internet statistics are made up, including a lot in this thread. Jerry
Upgrading my streaming/digital system- what would make the most sense? @dougthebiker I have an Innuos Zenith MK3 but you've got me reading up on the MU1. I too have the DAVE. If I sold my Innuos and M-scaler, it would almost fund the Grimm. What $5k streamers did you compare the Grimm to? I could also offload m...
Upgrading my streaming/digital system- what would make the most sense? I'm in the camp that the DAC is the heard of your system and you get the most bang from the buck there. I'd put your core on a NUC, install ROCK and let that stand alone. Then spend big money upgrading your DAC. I personally highly recomme...
Solid State Preamp effects on 300 B tube amp into Klipsch? My opinion is that there is nothing to gain, only the possibility to lose. If it is a great preamp, you won't lose much and it will sound great. Unfortunately, the Dennis Had 300b has only one set of inputs so indeed you do need a preamp of some...
Earth (isolated) ground vs. wall outlet ground. @erik_squires Indeed.
What were your humble beginnings on the path to high end audio? In college I listened to OP systems (other people’s). I couldn’t afford a system. Got a good job and started putting a system together. Before the internet I subscribed to a monthly high end used equipment sale paper. I couldn’t afford B&W 80...
Recommendations for 7 channel amp ARe you watching movies or listening to 2 channel sound. My Denon 3700 is adequate for watching movies. I'm not sure you'll find an HT reciever that is great for 2 channel sound, especially in that price range. Jerry
Earth (isolated) ground vs. wall outlet ground. Lots of misunderstanding here. Let me try to simplify it: Back in the 2 prong days, ground was indeed tied to neutral. So the chassis would be tied to the neutral. If it wasn’t, then if a hot wire touched the chassis, the chassis sat at 120V and ...
Need advice for bi-amping or tri-amping Sonus Faber Aida speakers You asked for advice. All I have is an opinion. so I’ll share it and feel free to ignore it: unless your amp is inadequate, it is generally a waste of time. I will admit that using an SS amp on the bass might free up your tube amp. Jerry
Review of the Raven Audio Osprey Integrated Tube Amp and Corvus Reference Monitors @crawfishdaddi I’ve pretty much sworn off of push pull. I had the Decware ZMA which is an awesome push pull with an amazing power supply and does it’s best to give sET sound but I ended up selling it. but with an 88 dB speaker, you need push pull.... |
