My experience with Sophia Electric Baby II Amplifier
The origninal Baby was my first tube amp and I kept it, perhaps from nostalgia.  I don't have experience with the Baby II.  but these amps are excellent in their price range. I have become a huge fan of the SET amp so I've wanted to hear the baby...
I am sad
I currently have 5 amps I could switch in. I need to sell about 4, but I wall always have a spare amp and DAC so I will never be out of music for even a day. Now the spare amps are much, much less pricey than my main amp, but you can get a large ...
Talk me out of buying Monoblocks and into a stereo amp instead
A lot of advantages to monoblocks.  Lighter and easier to move, dedicated power supply. Can be placed at the base of the speaker with a 1M speaker cable.  I'd argue for different amps but you are past that.
Upgrading specific components in a tube amplifier
Different resistors and capacitors are popular for different applications.  Figure out which resistors and caps you're looking to upgrade, post the values and where they are in the circuit, and current brand, and you'll get some good recommendatio...
Upgrading specific components in a tube amplifier
capacitors and resistors are generally easy.  focus on the signal path.  save the old components in case you don't like the new sound.   tube sockets are a lot more work and probably get upgraded only when they become worn out.  Tube rolling, esp...
Duelund cap break in time
If you had to turn it down that much, there is something wrong with your amp. Open it back up. if you can't find any problem with the mods, consider unsoldering the new caps at  one end and look for a shorted cap.  basic RLC meters aren't expensi...
Duelund cap break in time
I don't think burnin will create the large changes you are talking about. There is no such thing as 500-1000Hz bass.  I think what has happened is the amp is not putting out slightly less power so the subs are dominating.  rebalance an see if tha...
Raven Audio Soniquil Cables: Misrepresented Build & Tarnishing Connectors?
Lets not bash Raven too badly. These cables are currently on sale for $184/pr. As for the soldered vs non-soldered, it is a good practice to have a good mechanical contact before soldering. When new, the good mechanical contact may be better than...
Raven Audio Soniquil Cables: Misrepresented Build & Tarnishing Connectors?
Rhodium plated brass are two poor metals for audio conductors. Those setscrews are likely steel.
Can I run my wireless speakers through an external DAC?
not with the node.  Not sure you'll get much improvement with wireless, which is your limitation, anyway.
Is there any such thing as a bad sounding DAC these days?
Well, the 49c dac in consumer electronics isn’t much of a quality piece. But if you speak of DACs made for the audio enthusiast, there probably isn’t a bad one, but there are some that are much, much better. Jerry PS  ASR...LOL
I’m considering upgrading my speakers internal wiring
I changed the wiring and the crossovers at the same time.  Noticalbe and excellent changes, but can't say what the impact of the wire was. Warranty law:  Something breaks, they have to show that what you did caused the problem to deny the claim. ...
I’m considering upgrading my speakers internal wiring
@bobbyloans I didn't mean any negative toward him.  But he is a businessman and has to answer like the owner of a business, not like your buddy over having beers.
I’m considering upgrading my speakers internal wiring
I replaced all my internal wiring with Duelund DCA oil cotton insulated wire in 10 awg for the bass drivers and 16 awg for everything else. I did this while I was upgrading the crossovers. A dirty little secret is that almost evey speaker saves m...
Van Alstine Amp Replacement
I see more headphone jacks  in preamps.   I don't use headphones so maybe those who do will find a problem with my suggestion but there are lots of ways to drive headphones with a preamp.  but it depends on the headphones and the preamp.  There c...
