Do I need 10 gauge power cord if I have 10 gauge from panel?
14 awg is never big enough for an amp.   I have seen 10 awg power cords make huge difference in 5 wpc amps.  The logic of @johnnycamp5 above is exactly why so many people have undersized power cords for their amps.  But I'm ok with that.  I've bo...
Resistors in Parallel
It is very common to use resistors in parallel to increase the wattage.  For example, to get a 20W 5ohm resistor put 2 10 watt 10 ohm resistors in parallel (space them apart for heat dissipation).   Generally, I don't see people considering this ...

Experience with Townshend Seismic Podiums on Concrete Floor (they're great)
I use them.  I have wood over concrete. However, the springs pretty much insulate the speakers from the floor so it doesn't matter what the floor it, they are excellent. I've posted this before but physics points to spring isolation as the right...

Buying Pet Peeve - Pictures
In the 80s I subscribed to a monthy high end classified that was published on 8.5x11 white paper, folded once, stapled and bulk mailed.  It listed stereo equipment nationwide with phone numbers (no internet yet).  I bought a pair of Mirage M3Si ad...
Took the lithium ion battery plunge
@bernadie5317 indeed that would be theoretically nice.  However many amps use several different voltages out of their transformers and tube amps generally are going to requre ac to drive a transformer to make the b+ voltages and other things.  For...
Linear Tube Audio- Little Known Great- Linear Power Supply
I just bought a bunch of linear power supplies and sold a few.  My searches did not turn up this one. I ended up with 4 Farad power supplies that I am really happy with but the LTA looks nice.  It doesn't say whehter it is supercapacitor based or...
Surround system for gaming and watching movies
Wrong forum.  We focus on high end 2 channel sound and reluctantly tolerate HT systems in the same room.  Some of the more affluent members here has seperate theatre rooms in their home.  But you can probably find an HT forum where people focus on...
Really expensive systems that sounded great?
I have a friend with a Hegal Raidho REL system that is probably $100K and it sounds good.
Qobuz + Lumin = Headache
There are lots of good streamers out there.  My advice is to find the one with the HMI that you like.  I don't like the Qobuz ap much.  My choice is Roon but every streamer has it's fans.  Arrange to spend some time with different brands. Jerry
Took the lithium ion battery plunge
@antialiased I understand that.  But that's not what the people buying the new battery system are doing.  @blue_collar_audio_guy Your exact power is not a regenerator.  It is a "filter" and I hate to say it, may be doing more harm than good for y...
Took the lithium ion battery plunge
When people say "batteries are always better" I don't know if they realize tht battery power is inverted to supply your equipment and the rectified so the quality of the inverter is very important.   Cheap inverters used to be total crap.  I've se...
Do you find yourself turning down the bass on Coldplay albums?
If you are turning it down, that must mean you have it turned up.  I think if you play without equalization you won't have aprobem on most systems.
DC blockers - what's your experience
I think DC on an AC circuit in the US is very rare and is often blamed for buzz when it is something else.
