what is the best, least costly DAC...? For the most part the chips used in all DACs are insanely cheap, a company like MF that has a skilled engineering team and low manufacturing costs can leverage those to make an excellent dac that retails for very little money.
The Hub: News, events, gossip: Come the REVOLUTION Mechans is right, show kids a hi tech looking thin white panel speaker and they will have to have it. Oh wait, Magnepan already did that decades ago but it has not panned out quite like that. Now, if you slap an Apple logo on a white 1.7 with alum...
Velodyne FSX12 10 years is a bit old for a sub, for $400 I would look for newer used options or just get a new one. There are plenty of good performers in the $400 range new.
Inexpensive sub for MG12's I second the Dynamo, easily fast enough for your Maggies. Audiophile Liquidator is not an authorized dealer so I would not buy from them, you can pick one up here for a few hundred bucks.
Zu Soul Superfly Tough choice, Omen or Soul for only $500 more bucks. I prefer the cabinet of the Omen, my only hesitation is the tweeter being below the woofer. The cabinet may be a little to small for that configuration, they will be well below my ear at my list...
Current Inexpensive sub that can get it done cheap Any of the Martin Logan subs will work for you, a used Grotto would probably be the best value.
New Maggie 1.7 owner, amp ? The old standby for Maggies is a Bryston, the 4b can be had easily in your price range. If you don't like it you can easily sell it for little or no loss. I use Wyred monos for my 1.6s and will not be changing amps any time soon, they have no prob...
magnepan experimenting Wouldn't the rear wave be the same as the front just the opposite phase? If that is correct you can essentially accomplish the same thing buy using the panels front facing with tweeters on the inside and wire them out of phase, positive speaker wi...
Have Maggie 1.6s, looking to switch it up. I did switch the panels around and I can say it made a big difference. I suffered from a similar problem of my image being more focused towards my boundry wall on the right, switching the tweeter orientation really focused it. Just to clarify, I d...
Dr. Dre Beats I would recommend going to a Guitar Center to see if you can demo some headphones, they will have a big selection of phones generally used for DJing. These will all usually cover your ear and in your price range you will get really good sound. If ...
hearing tests - where and how? Just use your system to play test tones in 1k increments starting out at about 10k, that will give you a real world idea of your hearing limits in your listening room. I did this recently I found I could not hear any of the tones past about 15k.
Have Maggie 1.6s, looking to switch it up. Thanks all, magfan I will switch them around and see how it sounds. I have also noticed that playing them out of phase can also produce some interesting results. I really love the sound of Maggies, I guess my curiosity is starting to get the bette...
What sounds the best on your system? I would have to say bass and well done snares wet with reverb.
What Is This Hobby? This hobby to me is playing with electronics, plain and simple.
Planar Speaker Placement There are some ideas in there that I have not tried, will have to play with them this evening |
