Do any amps have 6 ohm taps for 6 ohm impedance?
I have a Cayin tube that has a 6 tap.
Otherworldly
Yes, all Eva's work will confirm that we lost a special talent with her passing. But, her music lives on and that makes her special for all ages. Listening to her on vinyl is an extra treat, so if you don't have her vinyl 'Songbird' treat yourself...
How does the Cambridge Azur 840C sound compared
I have had both units in my system. I went with the Sony. Warmth was the key factor. Trying both units in your system is the only way to tell what is best for your ears. After doing the latter, if it is about equal, I would go with Sony in that th...
Looking for a new Turntable and need some advice.
I second the vpi classic. To keep cost down consider using a Shure 97 cartridge to begin with. It too, is low cost and if you don't like it, it would make a great backup cartridge plus it will give you experience in the mounting task. I know, a be...
New audiophile looking for first speakers. HELP
Something in the ProAc line. Of course, purchased used on Audiogon. If you need new, purchase in the UK for a value purchase.
Jazz from 1957 to 1967 was the most definitive.
I would agree. I started into jazz in 1957, doing live concerts and recordings. I had the pleasure to hear in person Miles, Baker, Desmond, Brubeck and many others, all in New York City. I also was able to sit in on some of the Columbia recording ...
Sony SCDXA5400es vs. Cambridge Azur 840c
I've heard both, in the same system and felt the sony has the edge. Dare to say, sony was 'warmer' with not edge. I've read the white paper on the 840 and believe it is just nonsense.
Room treatment success story
Never better said, 'its the room stupid'.
Help me start off right in the reel to reel realm
The 7.5 is a speed, not reel diameter. Most pre-recorded commercial tapes are 7 inch reels. In the early days of pre recorded the format was two track, stereo. It quickly changed to four track, stereo. Most four track were issued in either 3.75 or...
Dreaded wall unit
How about a different approach, Like a modified agreement. The speakers will never sound right in the cabinet, no matter what you do, not withstanding the suggestions being provided. See if she will agree to letting you take them out of the cabine...
Which purchase tipped you into nirvana.
Klipsch K-Horn. Yes, singular. Heard with Mac tubes, Marantz pre. Life was never the same after that. Could not afford them at the time I heard them, but twenty five years later I built the room and equipment. When Klipsch heritage stuff is heard ...
Another speaker placement question. HELP
Have you read the book? Floyd Toole's 'Sound Reproduction', this is. If not, don't make any changes until you have done so. It may take a few readings, but your understanding of what you hear will give you keen insights into to do, and not do. The...
high end speakers? ... not sure what brands/model
You need a 'horn' experience. If you have not noticed, many of the high end speakers are horn's. If you have the room, think about a vintage Klipsch pair, great sound, great value.
Oppo 83 SE wich would be best for my system vs 83
Yes, it would be better for you. Also, resale when the 'next big thing' comes along will be at least $200 higher. Another factor will be the audio side when the many Blu-Ray audio stuff starts to be issued this year. BRA will initially be limited ...
complete my system
Thank goodness I caught you now, before you go off the deep end on cables. Cheaper the better is the rule. Don't buy into the hype of higher price sounds better. Your ears should rule.
