Speaker Stands for Dunlavy SC-1A/V Mapleshade makes, what I believe to be, the finest standon the market. Reasonably priced as well.
Speakers That Are Good Near Wall...But Not Corner? I have a room likewise with some interesting challengesas far as placement is concerned. I auditioned a number ofspeakers but was disappointed with the sound when broughtback closer to the back wall. To make a long story shortI wound up with a set...
Why aren't all CDs created equally? I agree the above comments, but would add that there are some incredibly effective tweeks that may influence your thoughts on CD(s). I suppose that I've tried most of them over the years with the most dramatic results coming from the Mapleshade gro...
Bi-wiring/Bi-amping...worth the fuss and expense? Longho68-That is a very good question. I spoke to John Dunlavy sometime back and he defintely supports the mono option. My personal experience has convinced me that the vertical bi-amping approach can have it's advantages. The real issuesdeal with...
Bi-wiring/Bi-amping...worth the fuss and expense? I have the Dunlavy SC-5(s) and vertically bi-amp and, of course, bi-wire. This speaker design is very current hungry and equipment picky. There is a substantial difference indynamics and low bass performance I believe in the bi-amp arrangement.
Maple, solid vs butcher block, vs other materials A 4" thick base from Mapleshade is the best I've come across. All of Mapleshades products really deliver.
From tubes to solid state. What do you loose... What do you loose? Headaches, hassle and hernia(s). Just kidding. At the top, there's not a lot of difference between the two. At more realistic levels solid state designs tend to do bass better, while tubes typically give a terrific midrange. I, ...
Which Silver Bi-wire Speaker cables? If you value tube type sonics you cannot go wrong withAudio Magic cables. This is particularly true of the Sorceror or higher models in their line.
Overrated & Underrated In my view the most underrated musical classification is Contemporary Christian. I am consistently amazed at how much better sounding it is than standard pop recordings. There's even a positive message to boot. Go figure!
how far from rear wall should proac response2.5 be I auditioned these some time ago in an audio shop. They were pulled out from the wall a good five feet from the rear and 3-4 feet from the side. They sounded great. I made them pull them back to what my wife would allow (about half that far) and t...
Apogee centaur minor or Magnepan MMG I have a pair of the Apogee Centaur Minor speakers and have been quite pleased with the sonics albeit limited deep base.I matched it up with a powered sub from PSB and the combination has worked well. The one thing I have learned though, is to not...
Experience with Audio Research SDP-1 Personally, I'd leave it alone. 5.1 + systems are great for video and 2 channel can take you all the way there for audio. The SDP-1 unit is akwardly in the middle.
HELP: I need a solid state amp with a tube sound You really don't need to spend near that much to get excellent performance. May I suggest an Audio Research D200amp for around a $1,000.00 and then send it to Great Northern Sound for upgrades and 'shu-bang', reference performance for under $1,500...
Speaker placement at dealers I think this hits a nerve with a lot of folks. Along with the other comments, I have also found that stores will also showcase their best speakers far into the room, well beyond the aesthetic limits that most people can live with. An example of th... |
