Brass screws make a real difference on Dunlavy s ? Thanks Peter for getting the discussion back to something useful. I plan to keep the Dunlavy(s) for a long time and as they age there will no doubt be a need to find creative ways to maintain or improve their performance. As a side note, I have ha...
Brass screws make a real difference on Dunlavy s ? Begator, seems to me you enjoy splitting hairs. Am I to understand that tightening screws to their original tension level is not a tweak, but if they are now secured better than new and an advancement in sound is the result, that somehow this is a...
Brass screws make a real difference on Dunlavy s ? To answer a couple of comments/questions, I just simply tightened all existing driver mount screws to a secure/snug level. I did not try to apply a lot of force or torque but tried to bring all the screws to about the same point of rotation. I did...
Brass screws make a real difference on Dunlavy s ? Good question(s) Foster. What I noticed was a modest amount of additional transparency. It is the sort of improvement you get when using a good CD cleaner or beveling the edge with a lathe. Last night was fun using some very familiar high def CDs ...
Brass screws make a real difference on Dunlavy s ? Well, I took your advice and decided to tighten the screws on the SC-V(s)and everything in the HT room ranging from the SC-IV(s) to the SC-I center channel. Some of the screws were very snug to begin with while others took a couple of rotations to...

Speakers or Amplifier Why not go with a set of subwoofers? SVS, JL, Martin Logan ... just to name a few have excellent products. Make sure that it's a sealed unit with adequate power. Subs have come a long way and may really improve even a very nice system such as yours.
Dunlavy SC IV A harsh high frequency I agree with Rja. Something is definitely not right if you are blowing tweeters at that rate. I have just about every speaker model John ever designed and most of the units have worked perfectly for many years without replacing a thing. I have a s...
Best High End Audio Manufacturer??? I would like to thank everyone who has responded to this thread. What I've observed is that it's really hard to pick just one manufacturer, because (in truth) it's taken many talented individuals to corporately bring this hobby to the incredibly h...
Best High End Audio Manufacturer??? Plasmatech...just like the auto ratings, throw everything you value in the equation to come up with your pick. Envelope please!!
Burning question I listened to a lot of digital systems at this years' Rocky Mountain Audio Show. 'Best of show' for me was the Audio Research Reference CD-9. To my ear it compared favorably with the finest Analog rigs.
Has biwire speaker cabling become "old" ? Timrhu...good point about Dunlavy speakers having bi-wire terminals. On my SC-Vs I did a bi-amp arrangement with two Audio Research D200s and Audio Magic speaker cable. Sounded great. Now using higher grade single run Audio Magic cable with Marant...
who has the best recommended product reviews I haven't read a truly 'candid' review in twenty years. I trust my own ears and have some faith in companies who have been doing it right for a long time. Mainstream magazines are the worst in that ad revenues are at risk with each review. The mos...
Exemplar Audio - What's Needed In High End Audio My experience is that 'Taters' is right. I have been in this hobby for over 40 years and have built multiple SOTA systems from used components manufactured by companies that have been and will be around for the foreseeable future. An example is my... |
