Speaker Recommendations for Soundstage and Imaging
I have a pair of Offrandes, and as I have said befoe they present a wide and very deep soundstage like no other speaker I have ever listened to. But they do need some distance from the rear and side walls to allow them to perform their magic. My ex...
Speaker Recommendations for Soundstage and Imaging
Tbg said: I cannot understand how anyone could claim planar or long ribbon driver speaker images, but hey to each his own.Ever heard a properly setup Apogee planar or hybrid ribbon system? Sounds pretty damned fine, if you ask me.Insomniac - in my...
Speaker Recommendations for Soundstage and Imaging
I just bought a used pair of JM Reynaud Offrande speakers form a (great) guy here on A'gon. The Offrandes are stand mounted speakers and are very sweet and detailed without being analytical. But more importantly, they image better than any other s...
stock denon 103 vs. zu for my vintage rig
The DL-103 is a very, very good cartridge. The DL-103R is a great catrridge, IMHO. I have heard the Zu version, and I would say that you should probably plan to upgrade your deck and arm if you want to notice any significant upgrade from the Zu.If...
should speakers be coupled or decoupled?
Frankly, I'm skeptical about putting speakers on roller blocks or any type of decoupling device that allows for any additional movement. I think that the last thing that you want to do is allow for any z-axis (forward/backward) movement of the spe...
Vinyl to PC
Why do you need a special device? I have used the Alesis Masterlink, and it was very good if finicky. But why not use your computer instead? Standard DAC is your PC has an audio interface; USB DAC otherwise.Michael Fremer reviewed the Pure Vinyl s...
Pre of three?
The Mac and Cary units are very, very different beasts. Different features, different sound, one might say designed for a different audio lifestyle. Which unit fits your system? And more importantly, which unit sounds best with your other gear?I h...
Do all Class D amps lack soundstage depth?
Tholt, when I said "try another amp" I meant to say try another brand/vendor of amp. I did not mean to suggest that you keep trying the same model/vendor over and over again. There will be a "right" combination, but it may take a while to find it....
Do all Class D amps lack soundstage depth?
Look guys, it's easy: not every amp mates well to every speaker. A typical audiophile setup is a hodge-podge collection of semi-compatible parts.Try a different amp. What works for me or another guy on this thread may not work for you. Try a diffe...
Do all Class D amps lack soundstage depth?
Ironmine, I think that we all understood what you were asking. My point was that I can't recommend a specific amp that will substantially alter your soundstage. As I said and in my opinion, that is speaker issue. If you had poor results with the T...
Do all Class D amps lack soundstage depth?
It's probably not the amp, per se. It's more likely to be the match between your amp and your speakers. Have you checked the power ratings, efficiency and impedence between your amp and speakers? My experience is that soundstage is affected mostly ...
Speakers for YBA passion 100 Amp
If you like the "French" sound (sweet and detailed, but not hard or overly analytical) I might suggest that you pair your YBA amp with a pair of speakers that will mirror that sound quality.JM Labs/Focal, Triangle and JM Reynaud all make excellent...
Entry level tube amps?
That's a pretty nice system you have there. I was going to suggest that you look at new speakers, but...I am of the opinion that source components (and speakers) make the largest change in overall sound quality, and that the improvements diminish ...
Cool-running tube or SS amp for small room
Channel Islands Audio D-100 or D-200 monoblocks. These are the best of the Class-D amps, in my opinion.http://www.ciaudio.com/
Entry level tube amps?
What is the rest of your system consist of? What are you currently using as a pre? If you are all SS, you will get more tube bang for your buck adding a tube preamp first, and then going to a tub amp.
