In search of the right SS integrated amp
I'm going to fly in the face of convention and suggest that you listen to an amp that is not on your list: the Atoll IN 100 (or the IN 200 if you need more power). It's a very simple unit w/ a remote. Provides a wonderfully detailed and sweet sound...
Simaudio's New Moon 700i Integrated
Sorry - that's what happens when I try to A'gon and work at the same time.
Have you turned your loved ones into audiophiles
Both of my daughters spin vinyl. One is into classic rock, and the other collects classic opera performances. My wife is happy with anything that plays Barry Manilow and Celine Dion. I gave her an iPod a couple of years ago and insist that she uses...
Simaudio's New Moon 700i Integrated
According to Simaudio's site, there is no DAC incorporated into the Moon i700. There is also no mention of a USB port on the chassis.http://www.simaudio.com/xfer_integrateds.htmOther than that, it looks like a nice unit.
Very Small 2.0 Amp for Totem Dreamcatcher
The best bang for the buck will be an older stereo receiver. I have an old Luxman unit (pre-Alpine) that looks and sounds great. Tandberg, Pioneer, most any of the better units from the 70s and early 80s will work well.If that's too large a form f...
Why Rhodium?
Cpk, I have heard systems configured with all types of cables and connectors. IMHO with regard to interconnects, good connections (NOT connectors) matter most. The actual wire (assuming that you are within guidelines for inductance, capacitance an...
Why Rhodium?
Willoamp, industrial gold alloys do not oxidize and are considered extremely corrosion resistant. That's why gold is used for virtually all mil-spec and industrial purposes. There are a couple of limitations: 1) gold is not terribly wear resistant...
Best speaker used under $1000 for piano rec.
For under $1K you are severely limiting your choices, even assuming that you are going to look for used speakers. To state the obvious,, most speakers that are crisp and clear in the uper registers will reproduce piano music well. It's the full ran...
Why Rhodium?
I agree with Buconero. Rhodium plated connectors are, IMHO, a fad. Until recently Rhodium was cheaper than gold, and it does resist corrosion better than PURE silver plating. But it is not a preferred surface for wearing thrust contact conections....
Should I Bi-Wire or Use Jumpers?
Geez, another bi-wiring myth thread? Can any of you you who insist that bi-wiring is advantageous please explain to me the physics behind how it is supposed to work? Can any of you guys please explain to me why the effects of bi-wiring cannot be mea...

Ear 834P or Decware ZP3 or other tube phono stage
A couple of months ago I would have advised you to look at the George Wright WPP200C - IMHO a great unit for the price, under $900 as I recall. Unfortunately George passed away recently so you can't get a new one, but they (and the older but still...
VPI Classic---Denon 103 won't fit on arm??
After reading many of the posts and rave reviews for the DL-103 family last year I decided to mount a DL-103R on my original VPI Aries TT w/ JMW 10 arm. Compliance?... I don't need no stinkin' compliance! It sounded very good, but I eventually dis...
full range close to wall positioning
I would look at the new Zu Essence, just reviewed in the latest Stereophile. I have not heard it, but I have heard the recently discontinued Druid and it was a very good speaker. The Ohm Walsh speakers are supposed to be pretty flexible as to place...
Mac Mini
>>Anything that spins, vibrates. Cat or no cat. Reduced vibration equals better sound. With all due respect, that's one of the silliest statements I have ever heard in regard to electronic media.
