Best Audio Store Name?
Pacific Stereo in California, late 70's. All the cool people worked there, all the wanna be's shopped thereI think the wanna-be-cool guys worked at either Pacific Stereo or University Stereo. The really cool guys worked at the RSL store in Van Nuy...
Phase inverting problem
This is simple:1- Your PV-12A is phase inverting. Reverse the red/black connections on the back of EACH speaker. DO NOT try reversing ICs.2- Your phono stage is phase correct - so leave the cartridge headshell leads alone (wired normally).FWIW, I ...
Budget integrated amps for garage system
Since you are going to use an iPod, why not consider the Peachtree iDecco? Or a used Decco and a custom cable might be less expensive. Either unit should be more than loud enough in a garage with any reasonably efficient speakers.
Best amplifier and preamp for klipsch heresy 3
Curious, if your speakers sound like you are holding a pillow over them then I doubt that you have an amp problem (unless your amp is faulty). More likely is that either: 1- You might need to rebuild or replace the crossovers. Doesn't seem likely ...
Best amplifier and preamp for klipsch heresy 3
I agree with the responses above. The Klipsch Heritage line sounds great with tubes. But if you're not a tube guy, your NAD should work great. I have paired vintage Sansui & Luxman SS amps and receivers with KG4s, Heresys, Chorus et al, and ha...
Correct amp for Dynaudio Audience 42?
I have a pair of Audience 42Ws for my office system, which have no rear port and can be placed against the wall. I picked these up on a whim with the intent to resell, not thinking to pair them with tube gear as I prefer. I was surprised at how go...
How important is the tonearm?
Scipo said... most designers try to keep The tonearm's mass has low as possible to avoid unnecessary wear on the grooves.I do not agree with that statement. What does tonearm mass have to do with tracking force, in and of itself? Tonearm mass is a...
Klipsch Cornwall III or Tyler Acoustics PD-15
The Cornscala can be a very, very good speaker, depending on who built it and how much thought they put into the process. If you look carefully at Crites' site and read the many comments on Klipsch and other sites, it's apparent that this is very ...
Suggestions/Help?
Theresamarie1,I have heard a lot of descriptions of K/IIs, but 'tinny/screechy' would not be one of them. Are you sure that all is well with your speakers or your system upstream?
Garrard 301
Dividoro,Look here: Keystrobe Turntable EssentialsThese folks make a replacement strobe and pulsar unit for Garrard 301, 401 and 124 decks that negates the need for frequency-specific platters. They seem to be reasonably priced as well. I am conte...
Considering analog...but nervous
gh0st,This thread of yours sure generated a mixed bag of reactions: C'mon in, the water's fine! Don't do it! Join us! Keep away!I probably would have logged on to drphil.com by now.I agree and disagree with much of the advise you have been given, ...
Tube Monoblocks for heavy music on Khorns
1- Khorns2- tube amp3- heavy metal4- small roomIMHO, pick any three. I suggest that you eliminate either 1 or 4.
Klipsch Cornwall III or Tyler Acoustics PD-15
Rohitdev, these are two completely different animals. I have much more experience with the Cornwalls than with Tylers (PD-15s), but I will venture to guess that if you like one you probably won't like the other. You really need to find a pair of b...
Golden Tube Audio SE-40
Faust3d said:You can get better amps for a bit more money and even for less money.I have not heard a tube amp that sounded better than the SE-40 for $350 or so. If you can do the upgrades yourself, spend another $100 (or less) and it becomes a gia...
Arms w/ azimuth adjustment while record is playing
All "full" versions of the VPI JMW arm allow you to adjust VTA on the fly. I cannot think why I would want to adjust azimuth during play - methinks there is too much chance of damage to the stylus and/or the LP.BTW - nice handle, dude.
