used SET amp under $1500 suggestion
As much as I enjoy SET amps (and I do!), I must agree with Jrinkerptdnet - moving to a SET amp for the reason you stated seems a little extreme to me. It might be easier to deal with the gain issue. But maybe your amp is just not a good match for ...
LP Cataloging Software?
Jnewl,I haven't heard of CD Trustee Professional, but I did try Kix Music Catalog, Catraxx and Collectorz Music Collector. IMHO they all suck; at least for LPs. The online music search catalogs simply take too long - there are either too many choi...
Ideal SUT for Lyra Olympos cartridge?
I have owned many SUTs over the years, from Cinemag to Audio Note and more. IMHO, SUTs built on the Hashimoto transformers sound best with the collection of MC cartridges that I have tried. I suggest that you contact John Parker at Choir Audio. Jo...
Magnepan room treatment
This is quite old, from 2003 or so, but I love the way this room looks. I can only assume that is also sounds good, knowing Peter Gunn's reputation as a Magnepan guru.Peter Gunn's Room Tweak
What does one purchase after owning horns?
Horns can work well in smaller rooms too, if you take care to carefully match the amp and speakers. I have used Belles in a room 10 x 12.5, and also Altec Lansing Model 14s in the same room. Works great, and may require less in the way of room tre...
Denon DL-103R cartridge update
You haven't specified a budget, and so you have several options at almost every price point. I love the DL-103R, especially mounted on my Thomas Schick arm. If you want to keep the "103" sound but just want more of it I suggest that you do as seve...
Speakers for MC240/C22
For a budget of under $500 and with that nice vintage gear, I would recommend a pair of vintage speakers. It will be hard to beat a pair of Hereseys for bang-for-the-buck, and they are readily available for under $500. A pair of KG-4s shouldn't co...

1 question, 34 opinions (including mine, of course). I love this hobby!
Will a quality USB cable make a difference....
Ed,Dude, did I run over your cat or something? I apologize if I inadvertently besmirched one of your audio idols. But I would appreciate it if you would stop lecturing. As I have said previously, you don't know me or anything about me. Your assump...
Will a quality USB cable make a difference....
Steve,Streaming data is streaming data, whether it's audio files or instrumentation data. It's either bit perfect and time correct or it's not. Yes, jitter is problematic but, as I'm sure that you would agree, not nearly as much with USB2 as it wa...
Will a quality USB cable make a difference....
Steve, I didn't read your post until after my little rant. Please keep in mind that USB is not an audio interface - it's a source to peripheral device connectivity bus. As far as USB is concerned, there is no difference between audio files and jpe...
Will a quality USB cable make a difference....
Ed, do you know me or anything about my audio experience? I worked in the audio business for several years in the 1970s, and while I am in the computer business, for the last 20 years my firm has specialized in systems for the A/V and digital medi...
What does one purchase after owning horns?
The best speakers I ever owned for piano, in particular, were my Apogee Full Range Planars. They have the added benefit of providing a true 25Hz to 25kHz response. But they are big (over 6' tall) and require a small power generating station as a s...
Will a quality USB cable make a difference....
The Diamond usb cable is so much better ,it is across the board better than the carbon usb cable. The top end air, the transparently and better defined bass are easily distinguished differences. Don’t let anybody kid you there is no difference am...
K and K Audio RAKK dac
Mingles, the "The Big" DIY DAC is now four years old and is quite out of date. Surely there is a more recent reference list.
