Budget receiver/integrated amp for Cornwall III's?
$400 for a decent tube integrated is going to be tough. For that price (or less) I would suggest that you look at some great low-powered vintage SS units. The Marantz receivers, mentioned above, are a great choice. I love classic Sansui gear as we...
Klipsch Cornwall III or Tyler Acoustics PD-15
Here's a cool way to mitigate the WAF re: a subwoofer:Altec Lansing Universal Coffee Table SubwooferI have always wanted one of these, but always seem to just miss them on eBay and craigslist.
Klipsch KG4 or RF3?
Klipsch KG4s are very underrated speakers, and sound much better than is justified by their modest price. I have paired KG4s with all sorts of amplification, both tubes and SS. Although I usually prefer tubes for Klipsch gear, I really like KG4s m...
Quads 57 -
Kentaja, I have to agree with Stan on this one, from direct experience.>>While there are many fine speaker mentioned in this thread none of them are in the same league as the Quad. The Quad is a legend and for good reason.Agreed. I was not t...
Quads 57 -
Jarraa, heed the comments above. Also, you you going to find it challenging to place Quad ESL speakers in a 10 x 11 room - a room of that size is challenging for any speaker. The Spendors that Stanwal mentioned are an excellent idea. Also, have you...

Computer Audio Rule Number 1 (adapted from General Computer Rule No. 2): all drives will fail at some point. If your music collection and/or your time is worth anything to you, it is prudent to backup your music files.
Klipsch Heritage Series
Donjr, first - this is probably not the best place to research Klipsch Heritage speakers. Go to the High Efficiency Speaker forum on AA, or for a more biased point of view look to the Klipsch Community website.I like vintage speaker designs such a...
VPI Aries versus VPI Classic
Well, everyone has different taste. Or, as the cannibal said "everyone tastes different!"Certainly, dealers have an interest in promoting what they have to sell now, as opposed to many years ago. And, frankly, if it were me and I was listening to ...
VPI Aries versus VPI Classic
I have owned both (but now neither), and was able to play them side-by-side with the same cartridge for some months. To my ears, it was no contest - the Aries 1 (w/ the original heavy platter) was the better of the two, by a large margin.I was sur...
Audio Desk Vinyl Cleaning System
Gents,Sorry, I should have clarified that my little rant ("...audio jewelry) was in response to Thuchan's note on the LR1 unit, not the AudioDesk. But the reports about the poor reliability of the Ultrasonic cleaner are disappointing. I have though...
David Yee Tube amps?
Are you are talking about the inexpensive Canadian amps that are often listed on eBay? I have seen the listings and almost pulled the trigger more than once, just out of curiosity. But an acquaintance of mine bought one and claims it was a cheap p...
Nottingham Spacearm rewiring
I wouldn't rewire this arm for sound performance reasons. The stock wiring is very, very good. I doubt that the Discovery, AN or Cardas cable would make a substantive difference.I do know some guys who have elected to rewire Nott arms for utility ...
Conrad Johnson PV-12A - Remove Phono Board?
I would advise against this. You can purchase a better phono unit than the PV-12A's phono section very reasonably. And your PV-12A is worth more with the phono stage than without it.
Opinions on what to upgrade first; speakers or DAC
I will take great speakers and an adequate source over a great source and only adequate speakers any day. Speakers first!
Why Would a Turntable Need More than 1 Arm ?
I would love to have a universal turntable with three arms - one for stereo LPs, one for mono LPs and one for 78s. Unfortunately, that would require too many compromises. But a two arm deck is fairly easy to do.Is that showing off?
