Maple platforms
Be cautious about using absorbent materials. A combination of VSE Tri-Orbs, 4" Mapleshade shelves and (cork and rubber) Isoblocks under very high end digital gear proved to be much less effective than another, simpler solution.
The song you just cant stop playing???
24u, I agree about Ray Montford 'Shed Your Skin' - great music and playing, well recorded. I have a couple of his other discs but they're not quite as well done.If you like Loreena McKennitt, I highly recommend her 2 CD set 'Live in Paris and Toro...
Quad Listener Contemplating Horns
I suspect you may be correct about the SP-10 being too noisy for use with horns, although it's a good sounding preamp, especially the phono stage. With regards to electrostatics vs. horns, only you can be the judge, although if you are sensitive t...
2005 Remembrance
Good thread. Agree about "Lugnut" Pat Malone, having had the pleasure of meeting him at RMAF. Rhyno, I was about to suggest Bob Crump as well. I guess we can pay our last disrespects to Rodney :-) although he was quite a different person in his pr...
DK Design Group X-Dream - wow
Tireguy, good point :-)On the other hand, the review in PFO came out about six months ago, which says the X-Dream was under development for over a year. Is it a finished product, and if so, why not play them? They look interesting on paper, but th...
Decision between Zu Definition OR VS DB99
The Zu Definitions require a larger room than as used at RMAF in Denver in order for the drivers to integrate and allow enough breathing room for the woofers, so comments about the sound there should be discounted.Bornie, many may not be aware of ...
Accepting International Payments Just Got Harder..
Fmpnd, great advice! Hope all is well with you! I strongly recommend wire transfers, having been through this with large overseas sales. A $25 or so fee should be expected if you are the recipient.Brian
Anyone going to CES/THE?
I will be there through the show, making the rounds and hope to see many of you there. Sound Lab will be demonstrating a new model, the M-1PX full range electrostatic loudspeakers, in Room 1302 of the Alexis Park. Parasound, Kimber Kable, and Gran...
Record Cleaning Machines
Robm321, you're right, all record cleaning machines suck. But some have a higher level of suck than others, and some like to whine about it. :-)Brian
amp and pre for Soundlab M-1's
Oops, my bad and I apologize. I did mention one brand. I'll go stand in the corner now.
Marantz SA-1 holding up well agains next gen.?
Steve (711smilin), spare me and everyone else the insults. I can explain and refute much of what you said but not here.
amp and pre for Soundlab M-1's
Gee, 711smilin, why the crude remarks, especially since I was polite to you at your house, the fact that enough equipment has been in and out of your system in the past couple of years without sufficient time to break in and enough to make anyone'...
amp and pre for Soundlab M-1's
Tubes108, are you thinking of the setup Jim Aud used a few years ago at the show? It sounded good, but unfortunately the amps clipped without too much provocation. Good power supplies help, however power and dB are related logarithmically, so the ...
Parasound JC-1 vs. Pass 250.5
Rapier21, one of my customers owned XA160s for a little while before changing to something else. The XA160 is quite different from the other amplifiers in their line, and in fact each model can sound different from the others as some reviews have ...
Marantz SA-1 holding up well agains next gen.?
Steve, I get a toothache just thinking about having 40 digital sources over the course of 2 years. How can one get a grip on anything when changing that often? Most people who want the best feel it's better to start with something that's killer an...
