Dedicated 20 Amp Line for Audio
Why a "dedicated circuit" when everything gets lumped together upstream of the comnpponent?  Separate line for digital?  Horse schlockey.  If the line goes through a fuse box with "analog" circuits, then the purpose is defeated.  If the dedicated ...
Best Phono You've Heard Under $2200
Herron VTPH-2a. Hands down the very best at any price.  Might find one used around your price point, if you;re lucky.  VERY lucky. Handles LOMC and HOMM carts with equal quality.  Easy to manage loading.  Sunds terrific.  Does not get in the way ...
How do you enhance a bad listening room's accoustics without breaking the bank? thoughts?
Pick up a dozen or two 5' artificial Ficus trees from a big box discount home dec store like At Home (@Home).  Scatter the artificial trees around the room focusing on behind and to the sides of the speakers and behind the listening position.  The...
A Newcomer to Digital Looking to Upgrade My Dac, Tubes? Ideas?
Upgrade DAC?  Tubes?  Ideas?  Upgrade the acoustics in your room.  It's a lot cheaper than electronics and more aesthetically pleasing.  Use a dozen or more artificial Ficus trees scattered around the room to be used as sound diffusers and absorbe...
Top 5 Reaons to NOT BUY A TURNTABLE.
The OP left out another reason:  The music lover was an armory specialist in the SEALS and refused to use earplugs.
Why does bass have more “punch” when I stand up vs. sitting?

Does Heavy Metal music benefit from a high end audio system?
Heavy Metal only benefits from an extended power outage.
Solid state amp to go with tube preamp; used ok; budget: $3k max
Look for a pair of Herron M-1 or M-150 amps.  Might be "A Few Dollars More" but will be the last amps you'll need.  No future amp upgrade necessary.
Cost Effective System Improvement?
The best, most effective and probably cheapest upgrade is to improve the acoustics of your room.  A dozen or so 5' to 6' artificial Ficus trees scattered around the room will improve the sound more than new equipment.  There are easy to find at di...
I'm a Dummy, Tell Me About Turntable Mats
Depends on the table.  I haven't used a mat sine the AR table days.  Been using a VPI table since the early 90's with no mat.  That said, record clamps or weights need to be used if no mat.  At least that's what works for me.
Jelco sa 750e
I'm using a Jelco TK-850L.  Wrong size for your table, but the TK-850 series is quite good.  I also have a SA-750e.  It's a capable arm, but not in the sale league as the TK-850 series.
Tonearm adjustments on the fly
OP's question about what do other tonearms do?MOST VPI unipivot arms (NOT the stock Classic 1 arm) lift the entire base on which the pivot is located.  The mechanism uses a fine-pitch screw to accessible on the arm base to make the adjustment.  Al...
Single driver vs traditional 3 way loudspeakers
I have dabbled in single-driver full-range speakers.  At least with Mark Audio "Alpair" drivers, they can be quite pleasing in the right enclosure.  For me, they worked best in nearfield in MLTL enclosures.  The paper coned drivers work better tha...
How can a system be judged with highly processed, non acoustic music?
It cannot be judged for accuracy.  Maybe timing, but not much else.  Amplified instruments do not provide an accurate point of reference sine the instruments; tone will be enslaved by the musical instruments amplifiers' distortions.  Even vocals c...
