Fidelity vs. Musicality...........Is there a tug of War? @noske20If you can't define it, then you have no clue what you're talking about.
Fidelity vs. Musicality...........Is there a tug of War? Define what is "musicality" and what is "fidelity." Be very specific and use objective terms, not subjective terms. Once that is finished and resolved, then we can discuss why some equipment fails to reproduce musical performances and other equi...
Best phono stage for Lyra Etna SL cartridge? The best is a Herron VTPH-2A. But since you can’t get one new, you’ll either have to find a used one or settle for something... less.
What angle should I set the VTA on my VPI turntable? Kleos (and every Lyra I've owned) should start with arm tube level and parallel with record surface with stylus playing. Then turn the VTA adjustment knob one full turn up and listen. Then back to level and listen, then one full turn down and li...
Mark Levinson No 52 Preamp phono stage custom loading @dnicol If you're talking about plugs that have a female input to a male output with a 900 ohm resistor from hot to ground, then that will work. But before you do anything, try listening to your cartridge with no additional loading. I've been u...
Looking for Speaker Input IMO, the weak link isn't your speakers. Try looking at the next electronic components upstream of the speakers. Start with anything with the initials "Luxman."
Need help buying new speaker cable caveat emptor
Turntable Decision SOTA. And don't skimp on the arm. The Jelco TK-850 series of arms is excellent, but I think Jelco might have closed up shop. Use the Herron system. The other system can't make up for the superiority of the Herron phono stage.
Spindle-To-Pivot Distance It's possible to use the arm with a slightly shorter spindle-to-pivot distance, but the standard geometry for the arm will not work. A new geometry and alignment system has to be generated. There is a geometry generator on vinylengine.com . Wil...
100W+ solid-state amps known for beautiful mids Herron M1 is a bit over $5,000, but the mids are excellent. In fact, the entire spectrum is outstanding, timing and dynamics are in a class of their own. IMO, one of the best amps available at any price every manufactured.
Herron VTPH-2A vs Rogers PA-2 Phono Preamplifier Those of us fortunate enough to own a Herron VTSP-2A don't have to worry what sounds best. We just get to enjoy the best of vinyl without having to be concerned about a phono preamp. Roll all the tubes you want. Argue FETs until you're deaf. W...
New TT, Arm and MC Cartridge @kingharold - Truly sorry for your loss. I would find that devastating. The DC Wood and Satisfy is a nice combination. A trusted dealer would make sure you're happy with the setup.
A 60 year old turntable design is still going strong! Great design with a mediocre, but easy to set up arm. Linn used the design and enveloped it with their bs in order to claim shortcomings were due to bad set up and inferior magic. Still.... I had two ARs myself and my father used his AR with th...
How important is it to have identical speaker cable length? The ONLY difference in wire lengths would be a very small amount of inductance capacitance. Certainly nothing that would be audible.
So where should the tubes be? Tube "sound" is all about the design and engineering of the electronics. I have heard very neutral tube equipment, not warm, lush or thick. Don't have that "tube sound" or "solid state sound." Just music. Tubes belong wherever they sound right... |
