Moscode 401HR vs Pass Labs X150.5
Also, much has been made about fluctuations in the quality of electrical power from day-to-day and even hour-to-hour. Perhaps the ARC is more sensitive to this than other designs? Maybe auditioning something like the PS Audio Power Plant is in ord...
Why are 7.1 pre amps more $$ than 7.1 receivers?
Kind of an apples to oranges comparison, in most cases. In addition to KR's comments, I would point out that the prepro section of a Denon 3311 is not in same league as, say, an Anthem prepro. Nevertheless, there have been examples that defy your ...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?

Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Mapman has some interesting observations about the nature of bass from Ohms vs. conventional dynamic speakers. It bears repeating that, if you can achieve linear response and a seemless blend, a good subwoofer or two with the Ohm Walsh speakers ma...
Review: Denon DL-160 Cartridge
Well, I'm officially in the DL-160 fan club! I installed it in a spare wand for my stock Thorens TD-166 MkII over the weekend. Compared to my Ortofon OM-30 Super, I am getting more detail, less etch and grit, better channel separation, equally rel...
Moscode 401HR vs Pass Labs X150.5
Never heard Pass, but the Moscode, which I've heard twice, sticks in my mind as an exceptional amplifier. One I would probably buy if I had the money. YMMV, of course.
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
D110 - Most of your assumptions are correct. I don't need the "wide sweet spot" feature of the Ohms (details on the Ohm web site), but it's still nice to have. The Shahinian is a fascinating speaker design with many loyal fans. I briefly looked in...
Van Alstine?
A few years back, I was running a Pioneer AVR in my combo HT/2-channel system, and had a Rotel RMB-1066 amp, run bridged, for the front three channels. With my old speakers (Vandersteen 1C), this was a bright-sounding combination. I decided to upg...
Review: Ohm Acoustics Ohm Walsh 2000 Speaker
Update - As I posted previously, I ordered a pair of custom made, spiked cradle bases from Sound Anchors for my Walsh 2000s. Although John Strohbeen told me that this was not necessary for the Walsh speakers, my uneven floor prevented me from gett...

Sub Question
I would never give up my pair of Vandersteen 2Wqs. These subwoofers blend seemlessly with my mains (now Ohms, but previously they blended equally well with my Vandersteen mains). Check my review of these in the review section. Properly executed an...
Review: Merlin Music Systems VSM-MXe Speaker
Nice review, Bumcat. I've heard the Merlins (a recent if not the most recent version) several times, and was always impressed myself. A compact, S.O. friendly design I could happily live with. Enjoy yours!
Review: Denon DL-160 Cartridge
Thanks, Mmr24. My DL-160 is on the way from an A-gon member, brand-new. Hope I can mount it properly without destroying it! I'll post my thoughts after I've used it a while.
Best Recorded Vinyl Albums
I've always liked Joe Jackson's "Body and Soul". Jackson clearly went for the Blue Note look and feel on this LP, and the sound is wonderful, IMHO.
