Van Alstine? Cedunlap - I wouldn't dispute your claims regarding the flat frequency response of AVA amps. Nor would I claim that my room measures flat in the brightness range. I simply do not know. But I don't listen to test bench gear, I listen to music. I kn...
Mcintosh C220 paired with Krell KAV-2250 Brian - did you end up buying the C220?
soft dome speakers Lots of bookshelf speakers use soft domes. Vienna Acoustics, Dynaudio, Reference 3a, Usher, Quad, PMC, Spendor, Fritz, Morel, Sonus Faber, Silverline Audio, RBH, LSA, and others, I'm sure. FWIW, I tend to agree with you. Some people are more sensi...
Big haul at local record show TheDuke - Yes, I was/am a bit confused on "Julie is Her Name". Recorded in 1955, mono seems to make sense. My LP (and many on ebay), say "Stereo" - but most LPs of that era that were "electronically reprosessed to simulate stereo" were labeled cle...
Moscode 401HR vs Pass Labs X150.5 Tvad's idea is solid, but if you are mortified of electricity like me, most power products, including the PS Audio, are available either direct or from resellers that will offer a generous return option. If the device doesn't fix your issues, just...
Review: Ohm Acoustics Ohm Walsh 2000 Speaker I will get around to a pic of the center eventually. Why John doesn't add a pic of it to the Ohm web site I can't explain.
Review: Ohm Acoustics Ohm Walsh 2000 Speaker I had had the 2000s toed in significantly, and this produced an acceptable phantom center for soundtracks. However, I did feel the center was lacking some "oomph" when set up this way. Although my Vandersteen VCC-1 seemed to be an okay match (not ...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? Parasound: I have zero experience with Ohm subs, but two things make me optimistic about them. 1 - You get a 120 day return option, risking only shipping. 2 - John Strohbeen knows how to design and voice loudpspeakers. Why not try one out and post...
Review: Merlin Music Systems TSM-MME Monitor Nice review, Tzh21y. I've heard the VSMs (various itterations and mods), and have always been impressed. One of those, "if I win the lottery" loudspeakers for me.On a separate note, I see you are running a Mc C220 preamp. I have been researching t...
Vandersteen 3a sound anchor Carver52 - I agree with John (audioconnection). Any dealer, especially a nice one, should understand that not everyone can afford to buy new retail. One thing I usually do before buying used on Audiogon is to check with local dealers, who take in ...
Review: Ohm Acoustics Ohm Walsh 2000 Speaker Jfriswel: Welcome aboard! A lot depends on your room. My 2000s are only ~5 feet apart, and I had no serious issues when I used the phantom center setting on my prepro. That said, I did feel there was a slight lack of solidity to the center channel...
Looking for the Honda S2000 of turntables Shrevie - Unfortunately I have no experience with the Marantz 'table or the Clearaudios it is derived from. Based on your original post, and positive reviews I've read, I thought it would be a convenient option. Note that, except for the phono car...
Speakers with deep base Vandersteen Quatro - internal powered subwoofers.
2k$ speakers that meet my criteria? I strongly second Martykl's suggestions, particularly the Ohm Walsh 1000, assuming your room isn't too big, and you have a decent amount of power for them. They are sold direct with a 120-day return option.
Vandersteen 3a sound anchor Marakanetz is partially correct, however, for proper isolation from the floor, and in cases where proper setup requires less tilt (they can even require a forward tilt at some listening distances and hieghts), you should use the third spike. |
