Awesome customer service from Simply Speakers
My experience was not so good.  I sent them a car speaker in which the surround had separated from the cone to repair.  Whatever they did to it, the repair did not last long, and the cone once again became detached from the surround.  I ended up s...
McIntosh Guy Going Tubes? (Maybe?)
I have been running a C220 preamp with a SS power amp for about 8 years, and I am very happy with this combo.  I just don't have the patience or heat tolerance for a tube power amp and all the maintenance they usually require.I replaced stock tube...
Fantastic Customer Service from Audio Classics
Just to ad my own positive experience, in 2010 I purchased a used C220 preamp from Ryan. The main output was not working on arrival, and Ryan swapped it out, with shipping at Audio Classics expense, IIRC, for another one, which was fine for a whil...
Vandersteen Sub woofers v Rythmik Subs
@gdnrbob - I think you are correct.  The 2Wq and V2W are probably toast, although Vandersteen may leave the web site as is for a while to allow his dealers to clear out any remaining inventory of the 2 series subs.
Have you recently lost a close audiophile buddy? What has it taught you?
@oregonpapa - What, you don't believe in Audiophile Zombies?  I have seen them at some of the audio shows.  They're out there.
Have you recently lost a close audiophile buddy? What has it taught you?
I have a lot of audiophile friends through my local audio club - The New Jersey Audio Society (check it out - www.njaudiosociety.com - ) Suffice it to say that it is not filled with a bunch of young, healthy millenials. We recetly lost our Presiden...
Vandersteen Sub woofers v Rythmik Subs
@tomic601 - +1.  I have heard the Sevens twice.  Once, perfectly set up at Audio Connection, and once at a show, where they were well set up, but, sadly, when I was there, were being fed by an Audioquest Dragonfly DAC (!).  These are among the fin...
Suggestions for Full Range Speakers up to 10K
If I was spendig ~$10K or less on a full range pair, I would listen to:1.  Golden Ear Triton Reference (these have built-in powered woofers) ~$8000/pr2. Ohm Walsh 5000 Tall ~$6600/pr3. Ohm Walsh F-5015 (also with built-in powered woofers) ~$11,000...
Vandersteen Sub woofers v Rythmik Subs
In case it wasn't yet mentioned, the Sub 9 is not Vandy's only subwoofer.  The 3W series is replacing the 2W series.  While not inexpensive, it is much less expensive than the 9 Sub.  The 9 is intended to augment the Model 7, for the most part, an...
Cocktail Audio N15 - A Contender?
@skiroe - This is a little OT (the post really focuses on streamers, not servers), but I would look at either the Melco server (you will need to add a streamer), ~$2000, or Bluesound Vault II (everything you need in one box), ~$1200.
Looking for a warm sweet speaker
Warmest line of speakers I have heard are the Opera line from Italy. Also, the Silverline speakers are pretty sweet sounding. I hate in-your-face etched sounding speakers as well. In general, you might wish to avoid metal dome tweeters, and instea...
Audio as a weapon
I sometimes use audio as weapon myself.  I find that when my wife invades my man cave and starts to ramble on about something completely uninteresting and unimportant, I return fire by gradually goosing the volume on my remote until she gives up a...
Ownership and Review of a pair of Ohm Super Sound Cylinder
@craigsub - I don't do dope, or drop anything when listening.  Doing, perhaps?  Checking email, usually.  But I try to set aside a few hours here and there for listening as a destination activity.
Ownership and Review of a pair of Ohm Super Sound Cylinder
Don't get me started!  Listening to a good female vocal + acoustic instrument recording on my 2000s can be an almost religious experience.  Suzanne Vega, Ani Difranco, Neko Case, Norah Jones, et. al., just make you stop whatever you're doping and ...
Ownership and Review of a pair of Ohm Super Sound Cylinder
@craigsub - Thanks for the update.  To us Ohm owners, your experience is not at all surprising.  I also run my Ohms with powered subwoofers, and I am thrilled with this combo.  Obviously, care should be taken to position and blend the sub(s) optim...
