Help with McIntosh Repair Facility +1 for Audio Classics. They repaired my C220 preamp earlier this year. Very reasonable. Be aware that the McIntosh parts department are kind of jerks. They had a part that was needed in stock, but wouldn't send it to Audio Classics. At one po...
flabbergasted with reviews on speakers Just an FYI, Ohm Acoustics provides a chart on their website that lists the range of cubic footage for which each of their speaker models is appropriate. I am unaware of any other manufacturers who do this.
RIP Tom O'Brian of the Cherry Amp Co. Just FYI, the roxy54 post that was removed, above, was the cause of the subsequent posts of strong criticism of roxy54. He stated that he would condition his donation to the O’Brien family GoFundMe account upon whether or not Tom had been vaccinat...
Are the new Ohm Walsh speakers Audiophile quality? @mapman Agreed, better upstream gear will make the Ohms sound even better. I am in the process of trying new a DAC now, and differences between them are clearly and immediately audible on my 2000s.
RIP Tom O'Brian of the Cherry Amp Co. @roxy54 ...then I would consider you a cruel fascist, and a despicable human being. I don't know the answer, and I don't care. Having pity for another's misfortune, regardless of the circumstances, is a part of being a decent member of the human...
Are the new Ohm Walsh speakers Audiophile quality? @sryeager Peter Gabriel is an excellent example of recordings that can sound awful unless your system is highly resolving. The LP "Us" in particular sounds incredible on my rig, but before I had the Ohm's it was a congested hot mess. Enjoy your m...
RIP Tom O'Brian of the Cherry Amp Co. @roxy54 ... Really?
Short list of musical subwoofers My Vandy 2Wq subs are very musical. I would assume the newer model is as well. But only when used with the battery-biased outboard crossovers.
Does anybody make... If you can live with a balance control instead of separate left and right volume pots, most McIntosh preamps will fit the bill.
Tube Preamps that work well with SS amps? McIntosh C220 into an Arion Audio S500. Even with a 15 foot run of IC between them, I get great, non-soggy sound. But it's not earbleed bright, either, thank goodness.
To DAC or not to DAC ? I have owned a McIntosh C220 for about 10 years. Absolutely love it.
Capital Audio Fest Notes @mapman Yes, the big ones. I like Fyne speakers. I heard their smaller towers at the VPI house just before Covid hit. Nicely voiced with only a slight trace of glare in the upper mids. Nothing I would trade my Ohm's for, though.
Capital Audio Fest Notes I liked the GTT audio room. Also enjoyed meeting Andrew Gillis of Small Green Computer. He makes very affordable Linux based servers and sells Sonare products like the Rendu line of renderers. His stuff was the digital source for GTT. He eschews t...
Help me pick one of four music servers/streamersreqi Well, SGC's cheap USB to S/PDIF adapter is no longer available. I am not dropping $400 on their remaining adapter just to keep using my old DAC. The Sonore Tonedac is $300, but I haven't been able to find any reviews on it. It is returnable, so...
Anyone dislike Ohm Walsh speakers? @lagunamike...very interested to hear what the rest of your system is. My experience has been a bit different than yours. I did have a peaky brightness around 5-7kHz which I assumed was the 2000s, but a new amplifier made that vanish completely.... |
