What is the best used sub-$500 DAC?
Nhtran: How would you compare the sound of three units you mentioned? I am very curious, thanks.
DCM speakers
I heard the flagship at HE 2007. Driven by a tiny Jolida tube integrated and the Jolida CDP as source, the sound was quite impressive. Smooth, dynamic, airy and open, with a solid foundation of tight bass. Way better than a $1K pair of speakers ha...
Silverline's "Prelude" vs. Monitor Audio RS-6
A favor: Can the Prelude owners who have posted here describe their room size? I have heard these speakers, the new version, and was very impressed, but I suspect that I will need something bigger for my basement system. My basement is 500 square ...
dac choice
I am very interested in this thread. Has no one heard the VAC2? Also - and I've asked this before - the Pacific Valve modded Lite Audio DAC 62 is based on the same platform as the Monarchy M24. It uses a different DAC, but a well-regarded one. It ...
Best Tube CDP for $2000 Budget
Mrtennis: yes - I've seen very little on the Vincent players. Please post your impressions. TIA.
Marantz cd510 As Transport?
Thanks... I am months away from a source upgrade, but I will certainly consider using the CDR-632 with a DAC.
Marantz cd510 As Transport?
Well, to use the 510 as a transport, just use a digital output into the Cal Audio Alpha. Output voltage level should not be a factor, since that is a function of the DAC, not the transport. It is certainly worth a try before you spring for a new t...
PS Audio? Rega? Benchmark?
Barrelchief: Thank you for your comments. I have been reading a lot about the PS Audio and the Monarchy DAC. I am looking forward to your comparison of these two. Just a thought - the Lite Audio DAC 62, modded by Pacific Valve, looks very similar ...
Attn Vinyl lovers - what CD Player do you use?
Dopogue: Are you suggesting the Ack dAck 2.0 is more rolled-off in the upper-mids/lower treble (a.k.a. brightness) range? To my mind, that's where digititis makes itself heard. I was under the impression by other posters that the Raysonic was smoo...
April Music's Audio Note integrated amp/CD player?
It's the Aura Note, not Audio Note. FWIW, I have heard April Music gear at two shows, and was very impressed each time. Clear, clean, smooth sound. I have not heard this piece, however.
Universal player with HDCD
Since HDCD decoding chips can be included a la carte, it is truly up to the manufacturer. The Denons do HDCD decoding, but that's all I am aware of as well. A look at most new players, universal or not, shows that HDCD inclusion is becoming ever m...
Shanling CDT 100 - considering adding a DAC
I am not too well read on the technicals, but as I understand it, a reclocking DAC should be less sensitive to the transport than one that relies on the transport's clock. Now, I know there is also much talk about asyncronus vs. syncronus reclocke...
HI End Dual Layer DVD player
I don't know for sure, but I would bet that most DVD players that can read DVD-R/RW media can read these as well. I do know that my cheap Sony entry level DVD player (DVPNS-55B (?)) states specifically that it will play DVD-R/RW Dual Layer media. ...
PS Audio? Rega? Benchmark?
Barrelchief: Thanks for your posts. I am extremely curious to hear your comparison of the PS Audio and the Monarchy Audio DACs. When you are ready to post your observations, would you also include the associated gear and your personal listening pr...
Need help finding a CDP
Soundgravy: If you wouldn't mind, could you share with us what the Classe does that the Rega and the Rotel did not (or vice versa)? Also, how would you characterize your sonic taste and the rest of your system? TIA.
