Vandersteen Quatro
I actually have 2 great local Vandy dealers... unfortunately, as I stated above, the 2Ce is too wide for the alcove of my room where the speakers must reside. Hence the requirement of a more narrow width profile speaker.
Anyone cure hum with isolation transformers?
Thanks, all. Due April's flood, I am just now about to reassemble my system. I will work backwards from the amp in order to locate the source of the hum, then try the appropriate device. I'll report back.

Thanks, Mrjstark. I heard the Lipinskis at HE2007. The sounded very nice, but are beyond my price range (especially since I'll need to replace my Vandy center speaker with a matching center speaker as well). I've heard the Zu speakers at several s...

Ozzy62: Actually, the overall dimensions of my basement room are 26 X 20 X 6 (low ceiling), but the area best suited for the front wall is an alcove about 10' wide. Considering I need the front mains to clear a RPTV screen (I know, but that's what...

Mrtennis: By implication, are you saying that you find the MF A5 dark sounding? I am curious, as I have never heard this player referred to as dark, or lacking in detail resolution.
Dust...It's Killing Me
I just through a clear plastic table-cloth cover or drop cloth over the whole rack when not in use. The only thing left out is the SS power amp, which stays on all the time. I have to dust that off periodically. My rig is in my extremely dusty bas...
What's your greatest purchase...
C-J PV11 preamp in pristine condition, bought about 18 months ago. Works perfectly and made a huge improvement in my 2-channel sound (had been using Sherwood-Newcastle P-965 pre-pro for both 2-channel and surround sources). A close second are the ...

Slightly OT, but... I have happily owned 1Cs for seven years. As my system has evolved, the 1Cs have taken advantage of every source or front end upgrade. Finally, I feel like I may have reached the limits of the 1C. The natural upgrade would be t...
Best Speakers to Audition in the $5-10k range?
It will be tough to audition it, but the Silverline Audio Bolero is my pick in that range.Another tough one to find, but worth it, IMHO, is the Roman Audio Centurian.

Undertow: Your points are well-taken, and I agree completely. It's more of a psychological thing; when I spend big bucks on an upgrade, I want everything about the new kit to be better. Of course, one should judge with their ears and not based on ...

Well, FWIW, the 128 uses the same DAC as my $500 Rotel player, IIRC, the BB 1732. I cannot bring myself to upgrade to a CDP that uses the same DAC I have in my entry level player, even though, due to other aspects of design, it might be worlds bet...
Vienna Acoustics Bach Grand
Thanks, Ipous. Chain is as follows: Thorens TD-166 MkII/Ortofon Super OM10, Rotel RCD-02 CDP - C-J PV11 pre - Odyssey Audio HT3 - Vandy 1Cs, each with a 2Wq subwoofer.I am in a quandry as whether to upgrade the CD player or speakers first. I don't...
New CJ preamp w/ remote that have old CJ sound?
Whoa! I guess I did well buying a really nice PV-11 here on the 'gon (not Jeffjazz' or Uru975's) for a fair price. Moving all my 2-channel sources and the front mains from my Sherwood P-965 pre-pro was a solid improvement in detail, soundstage and...
Vienna Acoustics Bach Grand
Slightly OT: I have read what I could find on the Mozart Grands (being more in my price range of ~$3K/pr). I get the impression that they are a warm speaker, with underdamped bass. However, my intention would be to cross them over to my Vanderstee...
Want something more forgiving than Vandy 3a sigs
If you are able to audition Silverline Audio speakers, you might like what you hear. They are designed with a slightly lower output in the upper-mids/lower treble, and I liked what I heard from the Bolero model very much. I too am extremely sensit...
