External Crossover/Vandersteen Sub
I had a pair of 2Wqs that I used wih the WX2 x-over for about a year before ordering the fixed value x-overs from my Vandy dealer. The difference was huge. Improved clarity, focus, lower noise floor, better image specificity, expanded soundstage, ...
Best used floorstanding / full range around $1000
Here's a speaker I've heard, and was very impressed by, that you can buy NEW for $1K/pr.: www.dcmspeakers.com. The TFE200 made beautiful music with a 15 watt/channel Jolida tube integrated and Jolida CDP at HE2007 in NYC. The room was not one of t...
Gallo Reference 3.1 questions...
I auditioned these recently. I am looking to upgrade from Vandy 1Cs (other Vandys are either too large or too expensive). What I liked was their very smooth presentation in the upper-mid/lower-treble range, hu-normous soundstage, and their freedom...
Conrad Johnson PV11...Extreme sibilance, harsh sou
I figured this would be a good thread to hijack for a moment ;-) I have had a used PV-11 for a little over 2 years, and recently ordered new tubes from C-J. Although I do like the overall sound of the PV-11, I do find it a little on the bright sid...
budget power conditioner
I recently purchased the Quintet. Although I am still trying to nail down the sonic impact to my system, two things are already quite clear: First, the Quintet does not inhibit dynamics in my system. Second, it substantially reduced hum and buzz, ...
Gallo Reference 3.1 questions...
I auditioned a pair of Gallo Ref 3s last night. System was a Musical Fidelity 5.5 CD player, Rogue Audio Metis pre, Arcam amplifier. In most respects, I was extremely impressed - huge soundstage, good imaging, excellent definition, detail and timb...
Anyone heard the New Luxman gear?
FWIW, I demo'd three pairs of ~$3K speakers at a retailer recently. The amp used for all 3 was a Luxman integrated (model #?) with big meters. I heard a Devore Gibbon 8, Audio Physic something or other, and Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grand. I didn't ...
What Subwoofer is the best bang for the buck?
FWIW, my brother has the Outlaw sub, designed by Hsu. It is in a large room which opens into other spaces in the house. It easily fills his room with clean, tuneful bass that does not burp or boom. Not expensive at all. www.outlawaudio.com
The best speaker on the used market for $1000.00
At DCMspeakers.com. $1000/pr, very musical and easy to drive. Sold direct with an in-home trial for 30 days. My personal favorite at this price point.
Where to buy racks?
cheap and decent racks from an advertiser on A'gon: NewQuestSound.comOne of the VTL A/V racks was ideal for my rig. Fast delivery and good communication.
Cambridge 840C, YES it is as good as the reviews
Glad you are happy! Besides the Resolution Audio Opus 21, what other players have you owned or demo'd? Thanks.
Quality CD Recorder with Analog inputs, suggestion
I have owned the Marantz CDR-632 for over a year. While not as feature-rich as the Alesis, it costs less, and to my ears, makes recordings from analog sources that are identical to the original. Being a "pro-sumer" model, it uses both music and da...
Best Recordable CD-R Media ???
FWIW, I had terrible results with the Mitsui in my stand-alone CD-Recorder (Marantz CDR-632). Many coasters, and long load times. The Taiyo-Yuden CD-Rs have been almost flawless, and as far as I can tell, make recordings indistinguishable from the...
Trying to extract more from my Vandersteen
I added a pair of 2Wq's to my 1Cs. Major improvement in dynamics and smoothness, especially at high volumes. They are amazing subs that are audibly invisible until called upon. Then they hit you in the gut with clean, tuneful bass that is not boom...
Modified DCM TFE200's......World Reference Now
I gotta tell you, I am used to an open box sound - I have had Vandersteen 1Cs for 7 years now. One effect of being a Vandy owner, is that if a speaker has too much box resonance, a boxy sound, I hear it immediately. When I heard the STOCK TFE200s ...
