Anyone upgrade from Jays CDT2MK3 to CDT3MK3?
With regard to the CDT3 Mk3 in comparison to previous models we have somehow overlooked an elephant in the room - the latest model has the toggle switch for activating the 176.4 khz upsample. For most of the CD-R's I play this option creates bette...

Critical listening and altered states
I enjoy my "medical" cannabis for music appreciation but in relatively small doses. Being "wrecked" on the stuff wrecks the music or rather wrecks concentration. Mild sessions wave off repetitive thoughts and other neurotic "loops" and also give t...
Anyone upgrade from Jays CDT2MK3 to CDT3MK3?
My backup transport - the CDT2 Mk3 - was an offered upgrade. The original machine was a Mk2. I paid for an upgrade board to be sent to me by Jay's. It was pretty easy to install. This was a few years ago.

"Out of curiosity, did you notice a significant sonic improvement of the CDT3 over the CDT2?" I would not say "significant," but it is smoother. The jitter levels are enough lower than the CDT2 that it is audible; and the innards look beefier.

I tend to always leave a CD in the transport. I know what you mean about the twiddling sound. It probably is doing no harm, but it's a big, beautiful beast of a transport; and you don't want to offend her.
Rel sub x-over fs/click
On my pair of S-812's both the gain and the crossover are set to 10 clicks. Of course, there are many variables to be experimented with.

I have both units - the CDT2 Mk3 is an emergency backup. Most of my CD's are recorded on Plexdisc CD-R's from downloaded Quobuz .wav files. If a given CD starts to pop here and there from wear, it is freshly recorded from my computer on a new disc...
Cornwall IV vs. Volti Rival, Razz; Razz v. 1, 2, 3 -- what changed?
I clearly remember that thread. The problem was that Silverfox was browbeating the forum in a very explicit manner as if he were desperate to "make a sale." It became kind of unnerving.
Considering switching to XLR cables,
I went through a period with my system during which I sometimes mixed XLR and RCA IC's between components to get different effects but ultimately found that using RCA throughout was best. Mixing them created "collisions" in sound - the XLR gain wa...
Would you buy a tube amp if you were unable to use vintage tubes in it ?
Has the Thread Initiator ever heard any vintage tubes?

Boulder 866—Why Did You Sell?
As a phile of many things including audio, I have never felt the need for a "wellness check" unless it also happens to be a bank check.
Considering switching to XLR cables,
Don't toss your RCA's. Sometimes and in certain positions lower voltage is called for.
