Ronk - why even pay this exorbitant ripoff? I mean what can they do anyway if you refuse? Send them back a dollar, no, make that 1 cent, Canadian.
Speaker Cables?
For home theater you can sometimes find great deals on MIT T2, T3 or T4 from Audio Advisor, or try membername Joeabrams for some good deals on MIT. Transparent is pretty much esoteric cable & the prices aren't excatly home theater friendly tho...
Speaker Cables?
MIT is great for long runs. Please refer to my comments in archived thread:http://audiogo5.iserver.net/cgi-bin/fr.pl?fcabl&998942564&openflup&15&4#15There are others as well; please use the forum search engine.
FPB Series - Hot Running?
I don't get it - I had a KAV250a that was practically stone cold @idle; the top cover was always only slightly warm. Maybe it wasn't biased correctly & that's why I didn't care much for its sound?
Noises that tubes make as they age
Other annoying tube noises that I've experienced are line hum, microphonics, parasitic oscillations, plus the hiss that you've already mentioned. And this was with Cary & VTL equipment, even the 5.5 I couldn't stand it. Good reason to go with ...
Speaker Cables, One side longer- bad idea?
Cable lengths should be equal to preserve staging & imaging charactaristics. I guess that's what he'saying...
Isolation accessories for heavy amp?
Vibrapods on the rack, a Black Diamnod shelf on top of the Vibrapods, then perhaps even spikes between the B.D. shelf & the component. Use of the cones &/or which cone composition is a matter of sonic preference; sometimes no cones at all ...
More Power???
Bridging a stereo amp into a mono is not without compromise: damping factor typically degrades by half, which decreases bass articulation & control, perhaps even masking HF subtleties & nuances to boot. But other than bridging, there is no...
Preamps - Active, passive...???

Under speaker metal SPIKES ...what is the point ?
Following the above thorough reviews regarding the physics of spiking speakers, I'd like to add some more commentary regarding the sonic advantages. I hardly consider myself to be golden-eared, but the changes wrought by spiking my speakers were a...
What would you do differently?
Instead of boxing & selling off all the surplus leftover gear (from tweaking the main rig) I'd use some of those pieces to build 'second' & 'third' systems, each optimized for somewhat different charactaristics. As it is, the boxed up cast...
I GIVE UP
Steve you mention changing speaker cables & interconnects but no mention of trying different upgrade AC cords, which is definitely a valid approach to your situation. You need to try some upgrade AC cords & also look into AC line condition...
Making cables pretty
Order a roll of heat shrink sleeving (whatever diameter you need) from an electronic supply like Allied or Newark. Cut to length & then slide it over your cables; just don't heat shrink it since that would make it harder to remove if you ever ...
RCA End Caps
After experimenting with shorting caps on preamp inputs, my conclusion was that the plastic dust covers already provided with Accuphase products do just as well (in other words there were no perceived sonic differences using a metallic composition...
High-quality AM antenna?
What's this world coming to? Tuners are still available with Ancient Modulation?
