Cable dollar allocation
Bishop I agree: You spend what you can hear that you can afford. Using no formulas along the way, I added it all up & presently have about $15K in cabling & line conditioning, which amounts to about 30% of the total rig. I don't use any fo...
What should I plug my system into?
At the very least get a reasonably decent power strip: Wireworld has one with a detachable AC cord for about $40 available from Cable Company www.fatwyre.comIf you've noticed a sonic improvement, then you can move up from there. A relatively cheap...
Garage Sale Steals - What to look for?
I always keep my eyes open for that Realistic, Optimus & Bose product. It makes my target range practice a side-spliting-hilarious undertaking.
Please help me tame the bass beast
If you've tried other equipment exhibiting the same problems then that would point toward setup I believe. Are speakers placed along the long wall as should be, or are you incorrectly firing into the long dimension of the room? However there may b...
Modify Power Cord with 90 degree IEC plug for ML?
Michael Percy Audio likely has an elbow connector available for this job. http://www.bainbridge.net/percyaudio/
Which record brush?
Czaz this all makes good sense esp. the photoflow, which sure worked great in the darkroom. I'll have to see, I might still have a bottle? But what's this about the marine spar varnish? That went right over the top, so please do explain? thanks...

Help with an Amp in the 1500 ballpark used
One very nice budget combo that I really liked was a Golden Tube SEP-2 pre driving a McCormack DNA-1 Deluxe amp via Synergistic Resolution Reference MKII interconnects. The stage was just huge! You can probably get both of these pieces for very cl...
Dented Tweeter?
Scoot that's good news. Considering the low-ish cost, why not replace both tweet's & retain the old one as a spare for possible future replacement needs? Or at least buy one spare while they're still available - cheap insurance.
Have you ever been stuck?
oh man, Kelly that was low: but hey the truth hurts sometimes! I just had to laugh - our old farmhouse is literally surrounded by corn & soybeans, but there's very little C&W in our music library (OK I'll allow you a few in the Stevie Nick...
What the heck is a power cord?
Jim we also have an old farmhouse with old wiring (excepting that new dedicated audio AC line). We also have an old EE living there who would have never believed that signal cables affect sound, and in not-so-subtle ways either. This same guy woul...
What is your listening bias
1. tonal balance2. clean / undistorted / no edginess or nasties3. dynamics & PRaT4. stage & image (my initial attribute where compromise becomes acceptable)5. All this from a subjective viewpoint
XRCD vs. SACD anyone?
HDCD can be SO much better than redbook, & for the same priced discs! Ben you've just got to try it, I have some of the same material on both redbook & HDCD; the latter is simply amazing. Pacific Microsonics is still very much in the fray,...
Have you ever been stuck?
Over several dozen transactions I've never had any serious problems myself, however I have read some horror stories... I've been tracking them for quite awhile now & the information is available. Have you read the (now deleted) Dssman thread? ...
Upgrade CD player or wait
Certainly upgrade that NAD - lots available used but stick with redbook unless you want to shell out big $ for SACD software. However 20 bit HDCD is a good way to go for much better sound than redbook, yet at the same prices for redbook CD's.
