Record mats, VTA, clamps and my ears VPI's platters at the upper end of the product line are at least 20 pounds or more (acrylic / lead / cork combo) & yes I've been told that they are reported to work best with the record very closely coupled to the platter. Mine (a MK4 with a T...
Will "Tape" input on preamp work for a T/T if I... just use any of the preamp's line level inputs (such as aux) unless your setup is highly esoteric (doesn't appear to be) very doubtful that going the tape-in route will work any better. But try it both ways & then let your ears decide for you....
How long of a wait Steve not everyone checks mail every day & some are only online once a day, very early, very late etc. Unless you're in a big hurry & have found what you want elsewhere at a comparable price, I suggest waiting a day, or three.
Leaving your amps on, with most, but not all equipment, you will experience a slight bit of background noise - nothing unusual to be concerned about & it won't hurt a thing
I can't really hear a big difference Look into your cabling, both the interconnects & AC cords, which may be drastically restricting your end result. A quality source component, when choked via a compromised interface, may not work much better for you than your bargain-level chan...
Outdoor antenna setup Fyne: you do not want a plain old grounding block; you want a gas-discharge type surge supressor, similar to Tru-Spec model GRB-ARM. The grounding block will shunt any transients on the shield back to a good ground connection, but will not protect...

Outdoor antenna setup A 120 mile range is going to require a LOT of tower height but it can be done; typically a professional is required for such an installation. Antenna requirement is a very high gain Yagi beam design for this distance. Rotor is only needed if you h...

The best way to design an audio system. Sean you're right - even Kelly couldn't do it :)& he really tried; even declared himself officially outta here, & still he can't keep his fingers off the keyboard
The best way to design an audio system. Twl I know you're very experienced at this by now, but if you were not, starting out from scratch - I'd then advise...* spend some time at an audio show if at all possible* chose speakers first based upon personal sonic preference* make your pream...

Review: Klipsch Klipschorn Speaker Mr. PWK himself had his K-horns set up with false corners, as in the above example. While tubes are generaly recommended, I like *power*! 200 w/ch mosfet amps do a real fine job, but like Sal says, you must use quality equipment & cabling or t...
Audiogon Hall of Fame? And the nominees are... Guess I might as well join the love-fest. This site provides such a wealth of knowledge & of course I'm proud to be a part of it all; it is nice to be appreciated, so thanks Joman for the above honorable mention. So many contributors here are ...
Quiet fan for rack cooling installation? 4" muffin fans & a Variac to reduce speed & noise works great. But SCR-based motor speed controllers produce tons of noise so definitely avoid them. Fixed power resistors are another way to reduce voltage / motor speed. |
