Gryphon Diablo 120 @Grisleybutter - I’ll work on it this weekend. Not sure why, but the virtual system feature hasn’t worked when I tried uploading in the past. I’ll try to get it up by end of day tomorrow! @zlone - Before purchasing the QLN speakers, I demoed mul...
Gryphon Diablo 120 @swede58 - Agreed. They truly are! Impressions after one day. The Pursuit of Perfect Systems review (I’ll find and link it here) is pretty spot on. There is a subdued, almost dark, treble which takes a little bit of getting used to. I think I ...
Gryphon Diablo 120 @zlone - I couldn’t afford them new, so picked up a used pair from an audio studio engineer in NY. They rarely come up for sale used, unfortunately. If you can find a used pair, I recommend jumping on them. They’re just fantastic speakers.
Gryphon Diablo 120 @glennewdick - I actually recently replaced EL34 tubes in my Conrad Johnson Classic 120. I plan on keeping that amp. I think the relaxed nature of the amp, based on the other components I'm using, probably has something to do with my perceptions. ...
Power filtering – Furutech or Puritan Audio? I’ve purchased and kept the Puritan 136 and 156. Both were significant system upgrades. I wonder if some folks who denigrate the use of power filters actually have any first hand experience with these sorts of products.
PREAMPLIFIER UPGRADE QUESTION @kjl1065 - I recommend the Linear Tube Audio Microzotl preamp with the upgrade. It’s below your budget and sounds so good it’s the one component I wouldn’t consider parting with. When I put it in it was the single biggest upgrade I’ve made.
Audio Research versus McIntosh tube amps: anyone experience or compare both? @bobbydd - I’m with Mazian’s comment above. As you mentioned warmth, I recommend the Conrad Johnson Classic 120. That amp uses EL34 tubes and brings a wonderful warmth to the music. I alternate it with an Audio Hungary power amp. The preamp is a L...
Requesting opinions about 4 specific amplifiers Personally, I feel the Luxman 509 is a little analytical to my ears, especially with those Dynaudio speakers. I agree with those posters who recommend a tube preamp to warm things up. I love the look of the accuphase, and people who’ve heard them...
Power cords: Kimber Kable Palladium @freightdac - I bought one used and ended up using it on my amp. I rotate back and forth between a Conrad Johnson Classic 120 and an Audio Hungary P200 amp. I moved my cardas clear beyond XL, which had previously been on my amp, to my preamp. I ...
Puritan 136 vs 156 for simple system @temmple - They pop up on USaudiomart every so often. I think you should be able to get a 136 for around $1300. Look at the power conditioner section right underneath power cables. Not sure why, but they don’t appear on Audiogon often.
Tube amps under $7500 @hickamore - I recommend the Audio Hungary Qualiton P200. You can use KT 120 or KT 150 tubes with it. Fantastic sounding amp. I use it with a Linear Tube Audio Microzotl preamp. For my taste, it’s a sublime combination. Audio Hungary also make...
Experience with Puritan Audio 136 Purifier Hi All - Update on my original post. I ended up purchasing the 156 and moved the 136 to my office system. I think the 156 brings a marginal improvement to an already great product. To get the most out of these Puritan components, invest in thei...
Puritan 136 vs 156 for simple system @temmple - As an aside, I was finally able to find a used ultimate power cable. I was expecting a minor but worthy upgrade. I was wrong. As soon as I replaced the classic power cable with the ultimate version, my system sounded more expansive, mor...
Puritan Ultimate Power Cable After adding two Puritan conditioners to my two systems, I finally was able to pick up a used Ultimate cable from a seller who happened to reside in the same city. I was anxious to get it home and try it out. I’ve read a few posters communicat...
Solid state amp vs tube amps @marquis4099 - I don’t think anyone has asked yet, but would love to hear more about your motivation behind the question? Are you embarking on a search yourself? Or is it more of an academic question? If it’s the former, you’ve got a potential... |
