Conrad Johnson CAV45-S2 8 ohm? 4 ohm? Other? The expense for CJ to use NOS EL34 tubes would be prohibitive. Those tubes are rare and expensive now. I’ve been looking for a set myself for my Conrad Johnson Classic 120. I’ve given up due to the expense. I’ve settled for upgrading the 6922 ...
Which tubes is better. Siemens or Telefunken? I’m about to purchase some NOS Siemens 6922 tubes (a trio) for a Conrad Johnson Classic 120. I have been using NOS Amperex 6922 tubes, which are fantastic. But I want to have several NOS back up sets of tubes, so I am going to give the Siemens a g...
Conrad Johnson--does anyone use this brand anymore? Old thread, but I can’t resist shouting at the top of my lungs how much I love my Conrad Johnson Classic 120. I’ve only had it for about a month, but it is a magical and musical piece of gear. I could listen to music all day. Zero listening fatigu...
Amplifier Pairing with Coherent 15s The LTA ultra linear (20 watts) and Audio Research I50 would both be excellent choices. I have the LTA preamp and it is magical. I’ve heard the newish AR I50 and it was spectacular.
LessLoss C-Marc Entropic Speaker Cable I own LessLoss speaker cables and one of their power cords. I’ve been delighted with their products. It’s harder for me to judge the power cord, but I’d agree with the originals posters evaluation of the speaker cables. They are excellent.
Conrad Johnson Classic 120se vs. Linear Tube Audio 40 Reference Amps @ghdprentice - Thanks! I’m looking forward to hearing these EL34 tubes. The deliberation period was extensive, but ended up going with a gut instinct. Comments from those here on this thread were very helpful.
Conrad Johnson Classic 120se vs. Linear Tube Audio 40 Reference Amps Hi Everyone - I appreciate all the responses. Sorry for such a belated reply. After demoing a couple of amps in my house, a rogue hybrid tube/class d amp that was acclaimed by a dealer here in Portland, and then a PassLabs xa30.8, I decided to pul...
Lush and Romantic Tube Amps @marco1 - I look forward to your thoughts on those class d amps. I thought about the same model from Ralph/Atmasphere along right the AGD amps too. The feedback on the boards has been very positive. When I went to demo a rogue amp, the local d...
Lush and Romantic Tube Amps Hi All - I’ve been slammed with work and have not had the time to reply to everyone. I did want to provide an update. After doing an in-house audition of a Rogue hybrid amp (tube and class d), and then a pass labs xa30.8 in my home for a week, I...
Help and opinions needed on pre-amp situation I have only been doing this audio thing for a few years. But from my limited experience, I’ve come to believe the preamp is the heart of a system. I added a Linear Tube Audio preamp to my system and the results were remarkable. I can’t imagine p...
Puritan PSM156 I have the Puritan 136, which I found made an immediate positive impact on my system. I am planning, at some point, upgrading to the 156 in my main system and using my 136 in my secondary one. I am curious about the ultimate cable versus the c...
AGD Tempo in the house @markmuse - I’d welcome your thoughts on the sound not the tempo. I was told the tempo was more tube like than the Audion. I’ve not heard either, but have been intrigued with the positive feedback I’ve heard. What is the sonic signature of the te...
Lush and Romantic Tube Amps I'll try to respond to all other postings over the next few days! I have read them all and appreciate all the insights. I really enjoy this board for the education from folks who know way more than me and can help guide my decision-making.
Lush and Romantic Tube Amps Hi Everyone - I really appreciate all the valuable feedback. Lots of food for thought. Would respond as replies come in, but during the week I'm preoccupied with my work duties. As I've followed the thread, it has actually dawned on me that wh...
anybody upgrade from Dynaudio Special 40 to Heritage Special? I have a pair of Dynaudio Heritage Specials. Great speakers but I’ve replaced them in my main listening room. The HS speakers require a lot of power. I think they should be driven with an amp or no less than 150 watts to sound their best). I pic... |
