Scansonic MB-2.5B vs Sonus Faber Lumina III
@jerryg123 We will have to agree to disagree. I had the PL HP with KT150s and Brimar CV4003, SR blue fuses and aftermarket power cord. I owned the Scansonic MB-6B, and they powered an 18x23 room. It wasn’t endgame reference, but it was quite satis...
Scansonic MB-2.5B vs Sonus Faber Lumina III
@jerryg123 Agree, but compared to the OP's Cambridge Azur 851A, it's a great step up.
Scansonic MB-2.5B vs Sonus Faber Lumina III
@missioncoonery Which Primaluna did you have, and did you upgrade the tubes and fuses in them? In stock form, PL is not so great, but considering the OP's system, it's not a bad choice. Upgrading to top notch tubes and upgrading the fuses, as well...
Speaker polyamory -- or, stories about getting a second set to alternate with your primary
I used to only have one system and was buying and selling and swapping gear. After a while, I had enough to make almost a second system. While my primary system has always been conventional 2- or 3- or 4-way, my second system became both a mix of ...
Newbie seller
Agree the package likely was delivered and tracking wasn't updated. USPS is the worst. As a dealer, I only ship gear with Fedex if I can (unless using third-party logistics solutions). Even UPS is more likely to damage items in transit.
Seeking suggestions for 6922 tubes
@roxy54 How is the preamp sounding to you, and what more do you want out of it? If you're looking for a Telefunken-like sound with an added clean sparkle on top, the Amperex JAN 7308 with white lettering is pretty close.
Bookshelf Speakers Transport by Airplane - Checked or Hand Luggage
Carry it on, don't check it in. It will pass through security, but it might need to be checked by the TSA when you take it out of your luggage. My best friend just took a very complicated DIY Don Sachs tube phono stage with large Hashimoto transfo...
Modwright PH 9.0X Tube Rolling Question
@testrun This thread is about the PH9.0, which typically doesn't have a tube rectified power supply. That said, the older SWP 9.0 did and rolling that tube led to substantial upgrades! Did you have a PH9.0 with a tube rectified power supply? I ask...
Modwright PH 9.0X Tube Rolling Question
@danmar123 and @audiosaurusrex This is incorrect. Electro Harmonix makes a gold pin 6C45, and the another, the best one is the Russian Reflektor 6C45. They are both better than the Sovtek, with the Reflektor much, much better. That said, they are ...
What cable companies make the best cables and sell them directly?
If you have DIY skills, this listing is quite incredible. I have no affiliation with it, but if I were to buy this I would split this up into six 1M pairs and just buy the connectors. Could be a full loom for an incredible price.  https://www.a...
Bell Canto C5i Integrated Amp with B&W Nautilus 803 Speakers. A Question
While amp output wattage combined with speaker sensitivity determines overall volume, the performance of the speaker is also dependent on how much instantaneous and unrestricted current the amplifier and cabling can deliver. Higher current will re...
Adding a sub. - can i start with one?
@ronboco Thanks for the compliments! I decided to start a hifi business on the side, which requires me to invest in gear for customers vs investing more into my own personal system. If the business takes off well, I'll reward myself with new subs....
The new dynamic in speaker pricing
@daveyf I agree with you as well. Just because something should be a statement piece doesn't make it incredible for everyone, or anyone! In that case, it's a failed experiment by the designer/manufacturer, and they will learn the hard way, though ...
Upstream Bottlenecks, Experience, Opinions, Meitner Dac
Since @ghasley decided to speak up where I didn’t want to, I might as well just add that I concur. If possible, stop trying to eek what you can with the Mac Mini and invest in a proper streamer/server. The cost of entry is a bit high, but if you c...
The new dynamic in speaker pricing
One thing to consider is that these speakers are not made for the masses. They are absolutely made for the 1%. Just with any manufacturer in any category, they invest R&D to make their statement products. This is true in any precision performa...
