Lowering Tube power amp output
Even if you are able to remove tubes and reduce power, this will often impact the impedance, which may cause other issues. Why are you looking to do this, and what do you want to accomplish?
What Is Most Important?
My mindset. Striking a balance of having a perspective on a system’s and piece of music’s performance and enjoying it. This entails having the convictions on a system’s performance while also allowing myself to be transported even if one system’s ...

When a budget speaker is preferred to a high end one...
I have experienced this. I at one point “downgraded” from a Wilson Yvette to a Scansonic MB-6B. Beyond just me, I had a few other folks agree it was much better. First off, many speaker manufacturers are just plain out expensive. Sometimes fancy ...
New High End Audio Dealer in Midwest
@teeball It was my pleasure. You’ve got a wonderful system and I am honored to have helped you to make it sound even better. I look forward to working with you more. :)
Need advice for a replacement phono cartridge
@michobr59 Someone just posted a very slightly used Audio Technica ART9XI on USAM for a decent price. It’s one of my favorite phono carts of any under $5K. I had it mounted when I had a 12” 3DR on my VPI. I preferred the tone even over the Dynavec...
Looking for Desktop Computer Speakers recommendations
+1 on Kanto if small form factor is important. That said, I have Elac UBR62 on my desktop and love them.
What's the 911 on re-tips?
Depends on how anal you want to be about the retip. For instance, most cartridge manufacturers want you to sent the cartridge to them for repair and they are expensive. But if you have someone else retip and try to sell the cartridge later, chance...
How long should speaker cables be?
+1 ozzy.  This is “one” of the reasons monoblocks are made, to have very short speaker cables. Preferably 8’ or less. RCA should be 1M or less optimally, no more than 1.5-2M. Balanced XLRs can be run long.
Wilson Audio Sabrina X vs Yvette vs Sabrina (Regular)
I had my Yvette with 4 feet from the wall to the back of the speaker, and I had bass traps in the corners and directly behind the speakers on the walls. Don't get me wrong, it sounded lovely. Many would have considered it endgame. But it wasn't ge...
Opinions: Martin Logan Renaissance 15a vs. Bowers & Wilkins 800D3
@farne230 I would cross out the B&W. They need more space than 16x16 to get the best out of them, though you could go with a smaller model. IMO the ML Renaissance will sound better especially as they will drive less reflections on your side wa...
Analog vs. digital
@lldd I have had this same conversation multiple times, love it. Just in the same way where high dynamic range in photography can sometimes enhance the initial impression but does not replicate reality in the most natural way possible. Another exa...
Wilson Audio Sabrina X vs Yvette vs Sabrina (Regular)
@broadwayjoe the OP’s room is 16x14. I’ve found with Yvette and above, the speakers need at least 5’ from their backs to the front wall. In that size of a room, they would already be close to halfway out in the room. Your room is 34’ deep. You can...
New user phono question. Comes with free story.
Increasing the tracking force will not help the output gain of the Shure on your Sony table. Your Shure cartridge is listed at a 4.7mV output, nearly double of the 2.5mV output from a Rega Carbon MM (if that’s what’s on the Rega RP1), so that is v...
Why do so many people have problems with bass?
And to answer your last question, while bass interferes with the full frequency spectrum, most room mode problems manifest in the 45-95 Hz range.
