mmf 2.1 or pro-ject 1.2?
They are both made in the same factory but the MMF 2.1 has a steel platter, which is not good for the magnets in cartridges, while the Pro-ject 1.2 has an aluminum platter that has been drilled for more accurate balance. The tonearm is also of a h...
power cords for linn ikemi ?
Power cords do make a difference on the Ikemi but whether it is for the better is another question. I would recomend that you try a few and see if you like the change. Some I've tried have made an improvement, others were more like a trade off. Go...
Meridian 588, anyone audtion on this CDP
I've heard both side by side and the 508.24 is better. The 588 is very bright, emphasizing sibilance and has an unusual peak in the upper bass. The 508.24 has great dynamics and is a very natural sounding player.
Preamps - Active, passive...???
I was on a search for a new preamp to replace a veiled and closed-in sounding Rotel RC995 and tried the CJ PV14 (tubie and slightly rolled off), Krell KRC-3 (dynamic yet slightly grainy and expensive), Linn Kollector (worse than the Rotel, wooly a...
"I've Got Blisters on My..."
Fingers. It's Ringo who says this after being told to play harder to get the feel right. Poor Ringo.
Using very bright and very dull CD's to test the extremes.
Do you mean the CD of Rumours? I find the CD transfer to be bright, glary and lacking bass. The original LP sounds MUCH smoother and warmer with more bass and a much less fatiguing top end.
Anyone herad the Audio Physic Avanti 111's?
They are pretty amazing with a great sense of depth and soundstaging although I did hear them half way into the room and about ten feet away from sidewalls. They were very three dimensional and open with my only criticism being that the bass was "...
Proceed AMP 5? or wait for Krell Showcase amp?
I personally prefer the sound of Proceed amps with B&W Nautilus series speakers over KAV series Krell. The AMP5 is smoother with more resolution and tames some of the brightness they can have. The newer KAV (300il & TAS) are smoother sound...
Source Rotel RCD 971 Player Upgrade or DAC
The Rotel 971 is a great player for the money and I don't really consider the 991 to be sonically superior, just heavier on the features. I sold my 971 because of a hardness and glare to the sound. I found the next step in better sounding players,...
B W CDM 9NT's with B W HTM2 center
It should be fine, especially if you consider upgrading to the Nautilus range in the future. The CDMCNT matches the CDM1/CDM7 better than the CDM9 while the HTM2 fits the N805 and N804 better. The CDM9NT is just sort of in the middle. The HTM2 is ...
High Quality Passive Preamp Recommendtion
If you are looking for a really transparent sounding passive pre look at the model by Placette Audio. It has three line level inputs and two outputs, 127 stepped remote control attenuator and the company provides great customer service. These are ...
Those break in CD
Its not the same. Most CD players won't play a computer program CD-ROM because it is not a Red Book CD format. Some will but I would recommend against it. If you need to break in your system just turn your FM tuner to static between stations.

IC suggestions between Linn Ikemi CDP and Plinius 8150
Tara Labs Air 2 sounds great with the Linn line of CD players.
Power cord suggestion for Plinius 8200?
I would suggest trying the Tara Labs Prime AC cable. It really helps clean up the sound and bring out the body and low end. It's worked wonders on every amp I've tried it on and is fairly moderately priced at $395 for a 6ft length.
