Piece of Audio gear you regret selling I, too, had a Threshold FET 10/e preamplifier that I regret ever selling. I still use the matching phono preamplifier to great effect.
Which one is better, streamer pro or DL III? Thanks for arguing against the general consensus, Dan.
Which one is better, streamer pro or DL III? Toslink through any DAC will not sound as good as asychronous USB through the HRT DAC. FWIW, I'm using a HRT Musicstreamer II+ from my MacBook Pro and find it sounds excellent.
Fathom 113 no highpass filter I agree with Marty's response completely. I'm using the F113 with my B&W 800's running full range. One other reason to do this is that by by-passing the internal crossover, the signal path has less connections and less to corrupt the mid's and...
what is the best, least costly DAC...? Check out the $300 HRT Musicstreamer II+. It does asynchronous USB, handles 24/96, and sounds incredible! Highly recommended. Not quite as good as my Bryston BCD-1 Cd player but close enough for my music server. Money well spent.
Ideal amp for B&W matrix 800 Since you asked, my Matrix 800's are driven by a system which includes a matching Bryston BP-26 preamp. My main source is a Linn LP12, heavily modified. I also have a Bryston BCD-1 disc player. My cabling is all MIT, with Oracle V2.1 biwire, which...
Ideal amp for B&W matrix 800 You are correct that the Brystons don't weigh as much as some amps. But, they are among the most powerful I have ever used and this includes sound staging and imaging. My former amps, the Pass Lab x-600's, weighed much more but were not near as st...
Ideal amp for B&W matrix 800 Glad to see these great speakers are still around. On my Matrix 800's, I have found the best results when using a pair of Bryston 7 bsst mono amps. These amps replaced Pass Lab x-600 monos that cost over twice as much. The brystons offer more spee...
What percentage of audiophiles use a sub ? I, too, used to think that it was extremely difficult to integrate a sub in a high-end two-channel system. However, the JL Audio F113 has shown me how easy and effective it can be. It is the first sub that I've heard that is fast enough to keep up...
Apple iPad USB Audio Out Camera Kit That is really interesting and promising if this is the case. I have pre-ordered the camera kit along with a 3G model of the Ipad. The camera kit won't be available until May 22nd. I will check this feature out once it arrives.
Interconnects for Bryston BCD-1 & B60R combo I own a BCD-1 and have found that balanced interconnects (XLR) sound much better than single-ended ones, especially in regards to smoothness in the midrange and high frequencies. I use MIT cables throughout and couldn't be happier. I don't know if...
Wilson Sasha , Avalon Indra or Magico V3? At this level, it should be a matter of personal preference; all the speakers mentioned are phenomenal. If it were my system, the Magico V3 would be at the top of the list. Of course, MIT cabling in this system would be a must.
Amp for Thiel CS6 A pair of Bryston 7B SST monos would be a killer match for the CS6's.
REL Studio III vs. JL Audio Fathom 113 I have not heard the REL, but I have had great success matching the F113 to my B&W 800 speakers without using an active crossover. I run my B&W 's fullrange and crossover the sub around 50 hz. This sub is so fast and powerful that even in ...
how far do you sit from your speakers? According to the Wilson Audio Set Up Procedure (WASP), the listening seat should be in the area of 1.2 times the distance between the two speakers. For instance, if the speakers (measured from each tweeter) are 10 feet away from each other, you sh... |
