Best DVD Player for Under $500 Used, the Sony DVP9000es is a no brainer at around this price point. You can also find the Sony 999es at this price. The 9000 throws in excellent SACD as a bonus. The 999 has oustanding picture quality.
Will I notice the differance? The Cal Labs Icon Mk.II w/power boss is a very smooth, musical and overall good sounding player. It doesn't have the resolution of the newer players but it is very musical. You do realize it would be tough to get it serviced however. The Sony Xa7es...
Theta with Vandersteen... what cables? Two cables I would recommend, Cardas Golden Refrence XLR, or the one I use, Audioquest Cheetah XLR (or Sky-a touch better.)I have been using Theta with Vandies for sometime now. Tried a lot of cables. Very revealing and neutral. Cardas does add a ...
Is harmonic accuracy and timbre important at all? Vandersteen's tolerances are every bit as tight as the Dunlavy's were. Take a look at the Vandersteen web sight. The 3a Sigs are spec'd + or - 1.5db and within a 1/2db of each other and are compared to a reference. These are the $3500 units. The 5...
sealed 3-ways Viridian, true but that "Passive radiator" is active at lower frequency's and not passive at that point. It is a very unique design with an overall "Q" of .7 A rather smart piece of engineering.
sealed 3-ways The Vandersteen 3a Signatures are sealed as are the Quattro's. 5's and 5a's along with the 2ce Signatures.
Is harmonic accuracy and timbre important at all? Opalchip, Good post and what I was actually trying to convey in my post. I like yours better! Maybe we should just come up with a new buzz word. High end sure lost it's original definition but so have a lot of other words in todays society.
Is harmonic accuracy and timbre important at all? I really can't agree that accuracy is "In the ear of the beholder." As mentioned above, accuracy means different things to different people. When dealing with a technical product, you must adhere to some sort of standards defining accuracy. Accura...
Is harmonic accuracy and timbre important at all? Warrenh, About as long as took the first string of the guitar to be plucked or the first horn to blow! I don't believe you can buy close to live at any price and never will. That's why I think we chase our tails so much.Actually, it's kind of depr...
Is harmonic accuracy and timbre important at all? I think sounding accurate and being accurate are 2 different things. The speaker is either accurate or it's not. If the room is messed up, changing the speaker is not going to help. Treating the room is the only option. If a speaker comes off the t...
Is harmonic accuracy and timbre important at all? The problem I have with this idea is we are not reproducing a live event. We are reproducing what is on a disc that someone has decided what it should sound like for us. Since we ARE reproducing an electronic waveform from the source, I feel it sh...
Is harmonic accuracy and timbre important at all? I have always thought that "Hi end" audio was about reproducing a given source as accurately as possible without requards to the quality of this source. Crap in, crap out. Good in, good out, etc. With this in mind, I would think that a pair of spe...
CD output voltage too high for preamp: what to do? Just for information, the CD inputs on the AI are not the most transparent. Try the aux. inputs. They're resistors on the inputs of the cd that are not on the other inputs. Art put them there to reduce glare on "Cheaper" CD players. Also, the outp...
Vandersteen 3a sigs/ 2wq vs. 5a or 5 I think Agaffer comes closer to the truth in my opinion. The 3a Sigs are a very good speaker. Paired with the 2Wq subs, they are maybe 85% to 90% of the Model 5's (using superb electronics.) The 5a's are probably 20% better than the 5's. I have no...
CD output voltage too high for preamp: what to do? I trust you did flip the gain switches to their lowest position (setting) in the M3A. They're 3 dip switches per channel. Two for bypassing the output caps and one for lowering the gain. |
