ARC Ref CD-8 compared to CD-6 and/or Ref CD-9
Jafant ... the Ref CD-8 is a hot-rodded up CD-5 with tubes. They use the same BB 1796 PCM DAC chip. I gather from your posts that if I am not really interested in picking up a general purpose DAC, it might not make much sense to go with either the...
Philly FM Radio and FM Tuner Redux
Thanks guys. You gave me an idea. We use Verizon FIOS for cable TV. I wonder if I can stream internet/cable FM radio off my FIOS connection. Will I need a DAC? How can I hook it up?
Philly FM Radio and FM Tuner Redux
Thanks Lowrider and Fleib ... you'd think that living in Philly is like being in a third world country. Sheeezz. One station ... that's it!!! Hardly worth looking for an FM tuner for just one station. Might as well do a wireless hookup from my car...
Looking for advice on these speakers
Agreed again. That might be my next move, if and when I try it. At this point, I am inclined to tweak my rig (e.g., cables, dedicated AC power) and room, and buy hi-rez CDs and LPs. Too much voodoo out there.

Gsm ... in a somewhat paradoxical way, your post makes a lot of sense. If I had only 2 dozen speakers to seriously consider, it would make the task of selecting a speaker, as you say, "manageable." Fair point. Even still, many such highly sensitiv...

Al and others, I appreciate that adherents of low power SET amps believe, and perhaps with some justification, that the benefits outweigh the downsides (e.g., low power output). My only point is that opting in favor of that direction necessarily l...

Al, I may have asked this question some time ago. The output stage coupling of most ARC tube amps, at least my Ref 150, "is a combination of 'ultralinear' and Audio Research’s patented 'partially cathode-coupled' topology, which is superior to co...
Vandersteen Treo vs Harbeth 30.1
You're very kind Zd .... I think speakers are the hardest part of our hobby to get right -- a personal and subjective choice at best. Flipping an amp or pre or a TT can be challenging, but heck, the stuff comes in a box. Most of the time 50 pounds...
Vandersteen Treo vs Harbeth 30.1
About a year and a half ago, I spent almost two hours with the Treos trying to figure out what was wrong with my ears or the amp, or the front end, or the cabling, or the speaker rake angle. I even used a bubble level to make sure the speakers wer...
ARC Ref CD-8 compared to CD-6 and/or Ref CD-9
Jafant ... one member sent me a private message with some reactions. He thought the CD-9 might edge out the CD-8 on the redbook CD side of the house, but not enough to justify buying the CD-9 just to achieve better redbook CD playback. Although I ...
audio research REF 150
Ollies ... I assume by your reference to "this power amp" that are referring to the Ref 150. If so, I am puzzled by your question because KT-120s come standard with the Ref 150. Although there may be other companies that manufacture the KT-120 ......

Don_c55 ... this is my last post on this thread. Did it occur to you that Hifigeek1 is not a "one trick pony"?? That is, maybe he services many other brands and may also have other commerical interests going on as well. If you're so interested, wh...

ARC Ref CD-8 compared to CD-6 and/or Ref CD-9
Would sure appreciate reading comments if anyone has compared the CD-8 to the CD-6 or CD-9. Thanks.

Don ... obviously we have very different views about ARC and some of its people. We will just have to agree to disagree.
