Best way to wire up a sub
Towman, as you sort through some of Al's excellent points, it may turn out that you need an impedance buffer that provides the multi-functionality that my buffer has. Rather than write a long response at this point, I'll let Al work with you on re...
Audio Research Reference 3 Seeking help
Tsushima ... respectfully, don't you think that ARC is within its right to be discreet with the type of technical info that is the subject of the last posts. Seems to me that ARC, or any company for that matter, has a right to keep proprietary inf...
Audio Research Reference 3 Seeking help
Don ... I must respectfully disagree with your comment that ARC has poor customer service. It's difficult to judge the situation described by the OP just comfortably sitting in my music chair ... so I won't. But based on my personal experiences de...
What's wrong with my almost new speakers?
I wouldn't rule out issues pertaining to the quality of the OP's electrons. I maintain robust reserves of quality electrons just in case ....
Lyra Kleos: tracking force/VTA/azimuth questions
Thanks Moonglum ... I feel somewhat vindicated. Having said that, it is my practice to wipe every record before play with a carbon fiber brush which does a nice job of picking up loose dust. I also use a gentle carbon fiber stylus brush to lift du...
Can I get a
Hey Dave ... back in the day, the Crown DC 300 series amps were considered to be top drawer. Seems like most people today turn their noses up when Crown is mentioned. Perhaps Crown decided to go commercial (e.g., PA), but I thought in the early da...
Audio Research VT100 upgrade to VT100 MKII
I would ask Kal for his advice. Kal is ARC's customer service rep and is very helpful. I am sure Kal can guide you to make a good decision that will make a lot of sense froma cost-benefit perspective. I just spoke to him today about a different AR...
Audio Research VT100 upgrade to VT100 MKII
Cygnus ... just a cost benfit observation. I don't know if ARC will still upgrade VT 100 Mk I amps to the Mk III version. Even if they do, here's my challenge point. I saw a VT 100 Mk III listed on A'gon for $2700+ or there abouts. You might be ab...
Lyra Kleos: tracking force/VTA/azimuth questions
Ok .. ok. I'll get off my butt and use the dumb VPI 16.5 RCM. I'll call Audioquest and order the cleaning fluid too.
Lyra Kleos: tracking force/VTA/azimuth questions
Jonathan ... I have a VPI Classic 3 tone arm and base. The wand is the original stainless steel version. As I said above, I use one donut about 3/4 the way down the AS shaft. I realize the 3D arm is a different beast. Nevertheless, would you pleae...
ARC Ref 3: Tung-Sol 6550 in power supply?
I've bought quite a few cryo'ed Sovtek 6H30pi tubes from Kevin. They work just fine. This is the first time I heard about issues with the SED "Winged C" 6550s and I've bought quite a few from Kevin over the years. So I wouldn't worry.I seem to rec...
ARC Ref 3: Tung-Sol 6550 in power supply?
Barry, I ordered a SED "Winged C" 6550 from Upscale Audio. Kevin Deal called me after the order was placed suggesting I pick another tube because he wasn't satisfied his current batch of "Winged C" 6550s were reliable. Ergo, the Tung Sol 6550. I e...
Lyra Kleos: tracking force/VTA/azimuth questions
Stringreen ... take this anecdote with a grain of salt. When the Soundsmith VPI Zephyr was my primary cartridge, Peter Ledermann routinely checked the it and replaced worn stylii on a period basis. On a few occassions, Peter reported back that the...
ARC Ref 3: Tung-Sol 6550 in power supply?
This OP kinda spooked me about the Tung Sol 6550, so I ordered a 6550 WE from ARC. I should get it in a couple of days. In the meantime, I'm using the TS 6550. I'll swap the TS out for the WE when the WE comes in. I'll report back with reactions.
Cary SLP98P not working with Audio Research VT100
Fantastic detective work Ralph -- many kudos!! I kinda figured that the problem related to a power supply oscillation of some type, but you took it 4 levels beyond. Who woulda thunk??
