Still happily using vintage gear?
I have a lot of real vintage gear in need of service (Scott and Fisher tube amps, a Citation I preamp,) but of what I use day-to-day, my most vintage are my tuners--a McIntosh MR-78 and a Pioneer TX-9500 II--and my Technics SP10 MKII which are all...
Technics SP 10 mc II. Worth looking at?
These were workhorse machines and the de facto standard of the broadcast industry from the mid' 70's to the end of the lp era. They are highly reliable and repairable. You didn't mention the asking price, but price and condition should determine w...
For auld lang syne, ..high-end companies you really liked that are gone....
Don Garber's Fi. Not really a company but an artisan of the highest order who passed away too young.
Early Faint "Phantom" Turntable/Vinyl Signal???
Isn't this why tape should be stored "tails out" so the pre-echo becomes post echo (which should be less noticeable?) Anyway, this is what I was taught on my only recording project that used tape. We recorded live (i.e., mixed on the fly) to two t...
Cartridge forgiving of "non-audiophile" recordings and pressings
If you have an appropriate tonearm, I second the SPU recommendation. I consider myself more a music fan and record collector than an audiophile, and I find the SPU really suits my needs. I do have "more advanced" designs, but I keep going back to ...
Interest in older SOTA audio and how that relates to your taste in other "things"..
I appreciate handmade steel bicycles and classic Campagnolo components from back in the day when craftsmanship, serviceability, compatibility, and durability were the pertinent values instead of today when technology and marketing rule. And I like...
Can you name the items in this system?
I think it is earlier--probably mid' 50's. It does look like an Altec horn maybe in a custom cabinet. I think this is a broadcast studio or a recording studio; clearly it is a professional system. Maybe some Fairchild gear. And it was quite common...
Old FM Tuners....O.K., Great or Folklore...
As I said above, I would like to try a tube tuner. As a teenager I inherited my father's Sherwood, and it was great. In general, do tube tuners suffer from HD interference or is it very much case by case?
Pick and post 1 record you never tire of and play over and over...

Blue Note Tone Poet Series
Are they planning more releases in this series? I am waiting for Eric Dolphy and Don Cherry releases.
Old FM Tuners....O.K., Great or Folklore...
In the heydey of FM radio (60's and 70's) it was a very important source in hifi-landia, and many manufacturers (especially the Japanese mass market companies) went all out to build state of the art tuners. Today, very little effort is directed at...
What can I expect to hear from a decent analog FM Tuner?
I mostly listen to WWOZ (New Orleans community radio) over the airwaves. Many of the programmers play vinyl from the their own collections as well as cd's and the stations extensive digital files, and on occasion the station broadcasts live in stu...
Do any still use an older high end tuner from the past?....
I have a MR-78, a Marantz 20B, and a Pioneer TX-9500II. The Pioneer is a bit beat up and never had the handsome looks of the Marantz or the McIntosh, but I think it sounds the best (and is obviously the best value.) That said, the MR-78 is the one...
Which vintage direct drive?
What about a Technics SP10MKII? Much easier to find than any of your chosen models, probably no more expensive, almost certainly more reliable and/or more easily repaired, and probably better to boot.
Good CDTransport (player) without DAC?
Searching online for more info on the Audiolab transport I came upon this website: https://www.preenonline.com/audiolab-remote-dedicated-black-transport-with---6000cdt-cd which  offers at a much too low a price to be true. Must be a scam, right?
