Tube CD player?
Anthem CD-1. Built like a tank, sounds good, and a 6 cd changer, too.
Can anyone suggest a good universal headshell?

Can anyone suggest a good universal headshell?
I have an Audioquest headshell, but I need longer screws to mount a Denon DL-103r. Does any one know what thread size they use? None of the miscellaneous mounting hardware I have lying around seems to fit.
Is there a way to clean...
I have a Nitty Gritty machine and RRL fluids, but I have also had good results using just an alchohol based cleaner and microfiber cloths (I like the super soft "auto detailing" cloths at Target--they don't scratch the vinyl!.) This is especially ...
Anyone into quality vintage direct drive?
I have a TD-124, but I got tired of the rumble, noise, and speed instability. I found a Technics SP-10MKII on ePay for $215 and built a birch plywood plinth, and I'm very happy with the sound. The big home model Japanese DD sure look gorgeous, but...
Best Used $1,200 Table Arm Combo?
Probably not what you had in mind, but In the past year I purchased a Technics SP10 MKII for $215 and SME 3012 Series II for $415 (both from eBay). Spent around $40 on birch ply to build a plinth. Mounted a Denon DL103R ($200) and I run it through...
I need a good quality CD player - with changer
No 96hz, but you might consider an Anthem (Sonic Frontiers) CD-1 changer(used.) It uses a tube buffer on the output, holds 6 cds, is very solidly built, and I find it very musical.
Favorite live LPs
James Brown "Live at the Apollo" (the first one) and Charles Mingus "Live at Antibes." These are two of my favorite records. Neither I'm sure is an Audiophile Approved recording, especially the James Brown, but boy do they capture the all the musi...
Alesis ML-9600 to archive my LP's in HI-RES CD24
I have used a Masterlink to record sessions straight to 2-track stereo at a high sample rate, mostly as a backup to 1/2" analog tape, 15 IPS with Dolby S. We used Apogee A/D's, like most high-end studios. The hard drive recording sounds pretty goo...
SME 3012 Help
The Shure does sound good. The arm is a little heavy to be ideal for the Shure, but in practice it is not much of a problem; the built in damper helps of course.I prefer the Denon DL103, or at least I did on a SME IIIs(!) with a ballast weight at ...
SME 3012 Help
I have finally mounted it on a homemade birch ply plinth with a Technics SP-10MKII; I should have it up and running tonight. The cartridge will be a Denon DL103 mounted in an Audioquest (Orsonic clone) headshell. I also have a Shure V15VxMR in the...
help picking a cartridge
I think the Shure is an excellent cartridge for the money, but I think the Denon DL103 is an even better cartridge for considerably less money. I switched from the Shure to the Denon, and I found the Denon more musical and coherent (and the surfac...
Back into vinyl - part 1
For those not inclined to tinker, Origin Live has done the hard work for you with their d.j. version of the Rega arm They also sell an Technics armboard cut for the Rega so you can mount your own arm.
Best Live Recording on LP
I didn't see the original list, but my favorite live jazz recording is Mingus at Antibes on Atlantic
MONOmaniacal advice requested vinyl question
I have never heard a high quality mono cartridge, but I would like to. (I think Ortofon lists a mono stylus for their OM series cartridges--they also have a 78 stylus for these cartridges.) I found Shure 78E stereo stylus at a yard sale. I asked o...
