Qobuz.
I haven't yet directly compared SQ of Tidal MQA against 24 bit Qobuz but I did prefer 24 bit files on my drive to Tidal MQA using Roon to do the first unfold. I am quite certain I do not want, much less need, MQA. Pretty sure I will cancel Tidal a...
Vandersteen 2ce Signature and Signature 2?
No carbon drivers in the 2! Altho’ a previous iteration of the 5 midrange in now in the 2.
Vandersteen 2ce Signature and Signature 2?
Despite being 'long in the tooth', Vandy's have always outperformed the competitors both in sound and price. Indeed. The Vandy 2 is an easy recommendation at its price point, even double its price point. As for "long in the tooth", that overlook...

how do Thiels sound compared to Vandersteens? I have heard Thiel 1.6, 2.4, 2.4SE, 3.7, and 7.2; Vandersteen 2Ce Sig II, 3A Sig, Treo, Quatro, and 7 (the 7 is a true top shelf speaker and it *should* be with that price tag). I have lived with Thi...
Tweeter Capacitor Upgrade (Coincident PREs)
clarity cap was neutral and "ruler flat". I thought that was pretty descriptive. It was clean, but I lost some warmth and color compared to the original solens. The Jupiters brought that back in spades while also adding better imaging. Nice!...
Vandersteen 2ce Signature and Signature 2?
The original question was Any way to tell the 2ce Signature to the 2ce Signature2? The 2Ce Signature is distinguished from the original 2 Ce by the inclusion of RV's autograph on the backplate. An easy way to distinguish the 2Ce Signature II fr...
Vandersteen 2ce Signature and Signature 2?
@harleyaudioconnection is referring to original Sig IIs compared to current production. Both are “Sig IIs”. Note that the first run of Sig IIs did not even have the 30th plate.
Vandersteen 2ce Signature and Signature 2?
If they have 30th anniversary they MUST be Sig IIs.
Vandersteen 2ce Signature and Signature 2?
I had an early (2008) pair of Sig IIs. IIRC, the serial number ended in “II”. That was the only external indication. Later versions have a rear plate with more conspicuous graphics. At least some of them say “30th anniversary”.

Stereophile measurements actually indicate deeper bass extension with the 2.2 compared to the 3.7 (!), so your perception seems consistent with actual performance. Note that Tom Thiel still has 2.2s.

More upgrade for less cost than the more complex 2.4. The coax has separate XO for tweeter and midrange, right? Ie, not mechanical like the 2.4.is this pic for all 3 drivers? Or just the coax?https://hi-fi.com.pl/images/numeryhfim/2012-03/jpg/44-5...

If you already have CS2.4 the XO upgrade is a no-brainer, IMO. Sure, it’s not the last word in low bass extension and definition but not much music happens below 30 cycles. You’re missing only some organ notes and the left most key or two on a pia...
From tubes to SS amp : Ayre, Belles, Pass or else ?
Through four years of attending RMAF, rooms featuring Ayre amplification have been the only ones which ever made me think I could live with transistors. Huh, I never thought about it that way but some of my other favorite amps are actually hyb...

I’ve not heard a DX-5 but am surprised you preferred it to the newer QX-5. Remind me what speakers are in that system? AX-5 has plenty of headroom for my CS2.4s.
