Ry Cooder recommendation...
2nd on the John Hiatt album. Ry's solo on "Lipstick Sunset" is just incredible. His playing is not about "flash", but taste, economy, and lyricism. Ry is sort of the anti-Hendrix ;-). A fun Ry album is Bop Till You Drop, from 1979. The first digit...

Slaw, the play in the bearing of your Mk.7 Rock is troubling. The Elite Mk.2 version of the Rock (what I own) has an inverted bearing, the spindle being fixed to the plinth (rather than to the bottom of the sub-platter or full platter in tables ha...

Slaw, I don’t know the viscosity of Townshend’s silicone. I do know that some Rock users have experimented with thinner versions, but I’ve used only the stuff that came with my table, the old Elite version. My table’s spindle was very close in dia...
Dylan wins Nobel Prize in Literature
There is a 7:55 minute video on YouTube, posted by what sounds like an academic who calls himself Nerdwriter1. It is entitled "Why Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize: All Along the Watchtower explored". Here are the author's opening lines, spoken over ...

The ET's are rather insensitive (but not as much so as the other magnetic-planar, Magneplanars), but coherency is one of it's strong points; a single driver covering 180Hz to 10kHz! The incoherence Robert Greene talked about in his TAS review was ...

The Beatles will be known for their hit singles, same as Elvis. But albums? Too spotty imo, especially after Revolver, their last real good one.Never has a receiver, Realistic or otherwise. I went straight from a Fisher X100 tube integrated to Mac...

Congratulations Shaw! The Rock is a very unique table, with a sound like no other. The 7 contains the Seismic Pod feet, so it has excellent isolation from the shelf it is placed upon. It requires no special considerations in set-up, except one: Do...
Do equipment stands have an impact on electronics?
agear, for anyone desiring measured proof of the effectiveness of the Townshend Audio Seismic Isolator, let me once again state that Max Townshend has a video on You Tube in which he explains the theory and design of the product, and demonstrates ...

It just occurred to me that next year it will have been 50 years since Dylan and The Hawks (they didn't become "The Band" until the following year) recorded what are now called the Basement Tapes, in the summer, fall, and winter of 1967. I imagine...
Do equipment stands have an impact on electronics?
No Randy, but turntables are arguably more than any other component affected by the stand they are sitting on, as well as from all other sources of vibration. The physical dimensions of the LP groove walls that the cartridge is "measuring" are on ...
Can I convert stereo to mono for a phono input
It’s not the cartridge that needs XLR outputs, it’s the arm cable that does. Some arm makers, and arm cable makers as well, DO offer XLR termination, and some phono amp makers XLR inputs. An arm cable that is terminated in RCA plugs can have them ...

I just hope the vastly over-rated Sgt. Pepper album will be forgotten, and the justifiably highly-rated Pet Sounds will endure with current and future listeners.
Is it a OK to leave tube pre-amps powede up 24/7

Surprisingly, I'm not so sure about The Beatles. But the first two Band albums seem timeless to me. A lot of blues wears well, the same for Jazz. A lot of Pop music sounds dated even before it goes out-of-print.
Do equipment stands have an impact on electronics?
The guys who have $2000-$3000 microscope isolation tables (first reported on in TAS about twenty years ago, now made by Newport, MinusK, and others) have them only under their turntables. One under every component in a system would be a whole lott...
