Brightest but shortest artistic bursts in the sky
Damn, how could I have forgotten about Robert Johnson? Real good one onhwy61, extremely influential is right.
Crosley Record Cleaning System
While not using the Crosley itself, I have used the cleaner it is an imitation of, the Spin Clean. In fact, I still have one, using it to pre-clean very dirty pre-owned records before they go on my VPI. At it’s price, not much is risked by trying ...
Crosley Record Cleaning System
While the Crosley may make an LP superficially look clean, where it matters, down in the groove. nothing has changed much. And chayro is exactly right---without a vacuum removal of the cleaning fluid, along with the dirt imbedded in the groove, th...
Has anyone had experiences good or bad with speaker isolation or isolation in general ?
Todd---a set of the Ingress Engineering Level 2 roller bearings are only $120 plus shipping, the higher performance Level 3 $175. A set of them plus springs should be all you need. The springs provide vertical isolation, the roller bearings isolat...
Crosley Record Cleaning System
I can tell this isn't meant as a joke, but it none-the-less is. As a real record cleaning machine (the Record Doctor V from Audio Advisor) can be had for as little as $199, there is no need to settle for this childrens toy.
ARC Ref 5se inferior to LS28?
Ha! It seems like progress is a circular phenomenon, coming back around to where you started, only slightly higher up the flagpole (as Donovan Leitch put it, "First there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is".). The claims for i...

I have to remind all of Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Bobby Fuller, and Patsy Cline, all dying at a young age.
Tube Preamp Recommendations?
An Audio Research SP-6b was just listed here on AudiogoN today, and has just been overhauled. It has the classic ARC tube sound, and contains a phono section. It's priced below $1000, so act quickly!
Brightest but shortest artistic bursts in the sky
I just remembered another one-album band whose record was pretty special. In the wake of the Knacks success, Los Angeles was flooded with groups and bands playing showcase gigs in an attempt to get a record deal. One such group was Great Buildings...
ARC Ref 5se inferior to LS28?
That issue of Stereophile was my initiation into audiophiledom, and the ARC SP-3 my first serious pre-amp. My dearly departed pal Brooks Berdan sold ARC when he was at GNP in Pasadena, but by the time he opened his own shop (Brooks Berdan Ltd.) in...
Isolation Devices: Any Good Ones?
What's "Loyd 1"?
The Band on MFSL
Something else that makes for no simple answer is that the MFSL vinyl and pressings are much, much better than the original Capitols. It may be that the relative quality of the vinyl and pressings may have more effect on the sound of the LP’s bein...
The Band on MFSL
Yup, the S/T brown album masters are missing, and have been for a long time. Steve Hoffman’s credibility and reputation were damaged when his CD mastering of the album for Audio Fidelity was claimed to have been done from the masters. They were no...

Barry Diament bolted each of his Maggie 3.7’s onto the middle of a 2’ x 2’ plank of plywood, and placed a trio of roller bearings under the plank in an equilateral triangle. Symposium Acoustics sells their Roller Block Jr. in sets of three, each o...

Oops, Phil's last name is spelled Seymour, not Seymore. I knew it looked wrong!
