Suggestion on XLR Cables
Some electronics made for home/audiophile use are recommended by their designer/manufacture to be used in balanced mode. There are other reasons for balanced operation than merely to drive long runs of interconnects. Ralph Karsten of Atma-Sphere i...
$3,000 Planar Speakers
Mitch, it was I who recommended the Eminent Technology LFT-8b. They actually retail for only $2499, an incredible bargain. Harry Weisfeld of VPI recently said the LFT has the best midrange of any speaker he has ever heard. I wouldn’t go that far, ...
Great music few are aware of. Any genre.
There is an absolutely incredible album from 1997 that few people are aware of: Greetings From Planet Love, by The Fraternal Order Of The All. The album’s title and the group’s name should give you a hint as to what the music and lyrics sound like...
Dylan live
That would be great! By the way, there is a You Tube video of Garth Hudson returning to BP for the first time since ’68. The current owner leads him through the house and down into the basement, and Garth points out where everyone was set up, also...
Suggestion on XLR Cables
By the way, Mogami Gold cables are terminated with Neutrik XLR's.
THE LITTLE BLACK BOX, 399.00 ABSOLUTLY NUTS
I'm not sure about all Rega arms, but many greatly benefit from being rewired. It can be easily done with XLR termination at that time. As Ralph Karsten has often reminded us, cartridges are inherently balanced, and using them that way, if possibl...
Dylan live
Damn rpeluso, I’m green with envy! The friend I planned on making the pilgrimage with saw The Hawks with Dylan in ’65, of which I am also envious. My last remaining trip to make in this life is to Big Pink. The current owner is a musician, and all...
Best Subwoofer for Quad 2805 under $5k
The unique GR Research/Rythmik Servo-Feedback OB/Dipole Sub continues to be ignored by all but the hippest audiophiles. It is absolutely, and by a country mile, the best subwoofer in the world for use with any and all dipole loudspeakers. The reaso...
THE LITTLE BLACK BOX, 399.00 ABSOLUTLY NUTS
Will, I share your dislike of unipivots, having had two of them in my youth. But I haven’t spent any time with the Graham, which my old pal Brooks Berdan liked and sold a lot of. By the way, the very interesting Trans-Fi Terminator is an arm featu...
Magnepan 20.7's & Tube Amp
When I had a pair of M-60’s powering my old Quads, I did exactly as Ralph recommends: the rear of each amp facing the back of each speaker, with a 1’ length of wire (silver Kimber) connecting the two. So much for cable makers who say with a straig...
THE LITTLE BLACK BOX, 399.00 ABSOLUTLY NUTS
Roger Modjeski at Music Reference will make you such a box for a fraction of $399. Remember The Mod Squad? When they were closing their retail store (Music By The Sea) they had a clearance sale (I bought Steve’s ARC SP-6b). While there, I asked Jo...
Seamzeazy record jacket repair
For getting glue residue from old, poorly executed seam repairs off, try Bestine, a liquid found in art supply stores. It removes the residue, but leaves LP jackets, hi-fi casework paint, etc. undamaged.
The Aaron Copland / Bob Dylan connection
There is an upcoming Dylan release I AM really looking forward to: "Love And Theft", an album I love, on a double-LP, just announced by Sony for the near future.
Dylan live
Oops, when I said Larry (Campbell) could be seen and heard in recordings made "there", I was speaking of the videos made at The Midnight Ramble shows filmed at Levon Helm's barn in Woodstock. I never made it to one, though a friend and I had talke...
Best looking reel to reel
That was my impression also, onhwy61. The Crown’s had great transports, but their electronics had a bit of a hard, transistor glare. Poor parts, or mediocre design? I don't know, but Revox's just sound better.
